We founded CLOSER in 2000 and recorded our first seven song demo in our living room. Somehow, one of the tracks on the disc became a favorite on WEND's 90 Minutes program in Charlotte, NC - a surreal feat for three teenagers armed with a 4-track recorder.
We went on to record several EPs over the next few years and each gained more and more momentum. While in college at the University of South Carolina, we toured the majority of the east coast from Florida to NY. Our packed, energetic shows even earned us top honors when the students of the University of South Carolina voted us Best Band in Columbia two years in a row (2004, 2005). The song "Change" from our 2005 EP gained radio play in Atlanta, GA, Charleston, SC, Columbia, SC, Charlotte, NC and Greenville, SC and the song "Nothing Learned" sat upon the top of AlternativeAddiction.com's Unsigned Top 10 chart for eight weeks. CLOSER was also featured on kingsofar.com and melodic.net as one of the standout, unsigned bands of 2005-2006.
We've played every large festival in the Carolinas including Charlotte's Center Cityfest, Columbia's 3 River's Music Festival, the South Carolina Oyster Festival as well as our hometown's largest outdoor all-day event, the St. Patrick's Day Festival. We've toured and shared the stage with Better Than Ezra, Jet, Cowboy Mouth, Switchfoot, Crossfade, and Will Hoge.
In 2005, while showcasing at a small music conference in Dewey Beach, Delaware (of all places), we caught the ear of writer/producer and former DIFFUSER frontman Tomas Costanza. We teamed up with the multi-platinum artist/producer and recorded five tracks at Killingsworth Studios in NY during the summer of 2006. The 5 songs we recorded with Costanza gained us attention on several fronts, landing us several major and indie label showcases. We returned to studio with Costanza in 2007 and recorded a full record in his Hollywood, CA studio.
