If you would like to order multiple copies for your distro or zine club or whathaveyou please get in touch. I'm pretty much looking to just break even so we can definitely figure something out.
Thanks!
Who I'd like to meet: People who will sit down and listen to 5 random songs off of my Ipod and have a conversation. Then I'll write it all up and make a bunch of photocopies of it and try to sell them at shows where people will say something like "what's a zine?"
I can't wait for #3. I read #1 and 2 in class all the fucking time. I love them both SO much. Nobody is as interested in music here so it's awesome to read these.
"How I found out about Listen Up zine" by Bradley Adita So, like, I was on my way to work, bicycling up Clark on the way to the vendor's "pen", the fenced-in area just north of the northwest most corner of Wrigley Field. When I got there, I found out that I was a little early, so I decided to ride to Reckless Records on Broadway, to see what they had. When I got there, I checked the zine rack first. There was the usual suspects of tired and dusty indie rock megazines and the one three-month-old MRR. Then my eyes spied the blue-ink-rubber-stamped letters which spelled "Listen Up" across a half-sized zine. From all my years of DIY self-publishing, this looked like something I should, at the very least, flip through. So I picked up the zine and flipped through the pages. Yes, it looked good. Mostly text, one or two photos. "What is this zine?", I asked myself. "How come I've never heard of it before?" "Who does this?" Just as I was wondering these things, my eyes read the name, Mickey. Mickey! Yes, Mickey from Iowa. NO SHIT! Wow. This is Mickey's zine. Mickey from Only X Between Us! Yes! So I put down the three-month-old MRR and picked up Listen Up. I was already excited and I had not read a single page.
hey-a guy i know in chicago sent me a copy of your zine and i just wanted to tell you--i LOVED it. i tend not to listen to hardcore but music is my passion so i like reading about all kinds and i actually read about old hardcore a lot--those bands inspired the bands i like now. ANYWAY. the interviews were fascinating and fun and just overall really cool. i can't wait for issue 2!!!
hey, i just picked up an issue down at mixtapes (iconoclast) and i really enjoyed it. i hope to see more of it.
i know we don't know each other, but brett keeps on telling me you're a rad dude and that i need to get in touch with you when i move to chicago (in like a month).
so i hope to see more issues of listen up. keep it up.
