The Friday Kinda Monday Djs
It all began with the avid hunger to spin record finds at friends' shows in Long Beach and LA proper. It soon became apparent that the local gigs with Greater California, Katie the Pest, Blank Blue and Valley Arena to name a few, and fun travel to L.A. allowed us to obtain even more records ... so it came together. We are Lithuanian Prince (L.P./Valdas Karalis) Hits & Mrs. (David Donahue) & Lili De La Mora (Year Zero, Fando y lis)
Our sophisticated boom boom started when Donahue opened the girl group gates of the mid-sixties, taught us the art of production and songwriter-credit seeking, and also the everyday spots to find records that slip through the cracks. We scored a monthly night in early 2009 at the Pike Bar & Grill in L.B., and we were in business.
As of now there are two monthlies in L.B., you can find the constant ring of world psych, girl groups, french pop, motown-tamla numbers and dark bubblegum—we tend to go shopping daily—for us, for you, for everyone with dancing feet. The second in town all-vinyl brigade is featured at 'Your Wildest Dreams Come True' club, held on the last Tuesday of the month at the Prospector in L.B. It features djs Deer-Unit (Reid Kinnett of Free Moral Agents), Rodney Swerengine and Lithuanian Prince, spinning under Apparitions of the past. We feature two local bands while the records flow throughout. Past groups have included The Fling, the Year Zero, the Commotions, Soon, Eugene & the 1914 and Light Music.
Along with the L.B. monthies, L.P. has participated in many local organizations' events, including Schooled in Song's downtown extravaganzas plus the Hectus' productions of Summer and Music (SAM) with the 1st & Elm farmer markets and Rainbow Harbor shows, the L.B. Art Museum's quarterly After Darks, and the upcoming 45 Flavors of Funk night. Keep your ears open and eyes posted for upcoming Thursdays and Fridays at the Pike bar, wine nights at the LBMA and other comfortable, intriguing venues all around town.
Sincerely,
V.K. & FKM
