About me:
Litquake 2009—The Big One-Oh!
Yes, it’s coming— the next Litquake is set for October 9-17, 2009- and it’s our 10th anniversary! Yes, yes, thank you. Naturally, we’ll be doing lots of celebrating. Special guests, special events, and all done in the inimitable Litquake style.
Thanks to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, authors and other participants — and our audience!— for making 2008 the best Litquake. Let's really bring down the house in 09!

Bay Area Literary Events
When we say "Bay Area," we usually mean the section of earth and ocean sitting at 37° latitude and 122° longitude. Really. But this next event honors another place, NYC. How could we resist? NYC quakes hard.
NYC LitCrawl
Check out our New York offshoot,
NYC LitCrawl.
Think of NYC LitCrawl as one-stop shopping for fans of writers with microphones. Instead of spending months wandering all over the city on your own to hunt down the best readings, NYC LitCrawl puts them all together in one evening: May 16, 2009, to be exact.
We'll post the latest information about our events to the My Space bulletin board. If you are a listed friend, you will definitely receive an invite to all of our Litquake events.
About LitquakeUnlike other literary festivals that must import name authors in order to stage their events, 85% of authors appearing in Litquake reside in the Bay Area. Litquake represents a lively overview of San Francisco’s thriving literary scene. Our live events embrace the Bay Area writing community, and give fans the opportunity to hear quality literature straight from the author’s mouth. And you never quite know what will happen.
It all started in January 2002, when a group of San Francisco writers and media folks met up and started working on the idea of a festival that would be a literary version of the city’s music, film, and cultural festivals. We wanted it to be diverse and inclusive - a mix of readings, panel discussions, themed events, and general literary mayhem - from a wide range of Bay Area authors. And we definitely didn’t want it to be boring.
Litquake is produced by the Litquake Literary project, and could not exist without its relationship with sponsors, including fiscal sponsor Intersection for the Arts and allied literary and community groups.
Litquake needs your help!
Putting on an event the size of Litquake is complex and takes a substantial amount of time and resources – more than most people realize. Because we host tons of free events, including Litcrawl, we need your support. Your support has helped Litquake get this far. We’re very grateful for that. Now we’re asking you to help us in taking it to the next level.

The sun trickles down upon lonesome ground
as the water brightly tickles its leaves.
Together forever, hope still crawls
as what is might is seen.
Beauty is balanced with the pure and bold
as hidden or found identity.
Forever seems never as darkness falls
Whichever,
whereever,
seems cuddley
Blah blah blah ...

Let's pretend that we don t have a soul,
that we don t know what s going on,
that as long as we keep paying the mortgage
that everything will be o.k.
Let s pretend that Lawrence Ferlinghetti is a liar,
and that people with millions and billions of dollars
will act in our children s best interest.
See my child,
see him grow.
I don't want him to go to war
no, no, no.
Let's pretend that if we close our eyes
they won t cheat us blind,
that after all this time of screwing us,
they will now suddenly play fair.
Let's pretend that if it s happening over there,
it can t happen to us.
Let's pretend that the religious man on the TV
doesn't just want our dollars,
and that politicians aren't sleeping with
the chairmen of the board.
Let's pretend that ketchup is a vegetable,
and that the homeless person is happy living
on the street.
Let s pretend that we don't need clean sea water,
and that it s ok that our rivers are polluted, too.
Let's pretend that three corporations owning
all the news outlets is the best way
to disseminate information
Let'ss pretend that there really is a Santa Claus,
and that he will tell us what to do.
