Karyn's Interests
|
| General | I love road cycling, although it's brought me near-death a few times; this has led me to an intense hatred of cyclists who don't WEAR THEIR FUCKING HELMETS, YOU DIPSHITS.
I'm a huge nerd and follow many paths of nerdism - sci-fi, fantasy, comics (web and book) and gaming. I've written the pretexts for a fantasy novel of my own, which I continue to work on and it is my ambition to publish... perhaps one day. :)
I absolutely adore body modification, though I myself clock in at a fairly lightweight total of 15 piercings (not counting the ones I've had to redo or remove). The list runs: five lobe (two stretched), right conch, right rook, two left helix, left nostril, left eyebrow, upper and lower navel, VCH and right inner lab. While I don't mind people knowing that I have intimate piercings, please don't ask me to show you as I will, in all likelihood, tell you with a great lack of politeness to fuck the hell off. :)
I also have three tattoos. My phoenix backpiece can be seen in my pictures, and below it sits a large sun with the Dream Theater symbol as its centrepiece. On my calf is a band of Quenya Elvish (I transcribed it myself with the help of some Tolkein language scholars, so I know it's correct), which reads 'Anar kaluva tielyanna, Karin Aiwenildë.' Brownie points to anyone who knows what it means. :)
I love talking to people about piercing and tattooing experiences - if you've got a story to share, or want to hear about mine, contact me :) I've had most of my work done at Wild at Heart Tattoo (Scott's a legend) and The Piercing Shop (so is Lynnette), both in Brisbane, and I wholeheartedly endorse both of these places.
I love most animals, but most especially birds, which are a great passion of mine. Despite this, my wretched brother somehow wound as up the one who gets to work with performing parrots for a living - there's no justice. My greatest love was a horrible, nasty-mouthed, vindictive, lying, sneaky, destructive little bitch called Sam, an Indian ringnecked parrot who was my friend and companion for nearly ten years. He died when he contracted the flu in the winter of 2005, breaking my heart. I will always miss him. | | Music | I'm into music of many kinds, most of it falling under the ever-broadening umbrella of heavy metal. For those of you that care about genres, most of what I like falls into progressive, neoclassical, power, thrash, traditional, melodic, and death. This helps me put up with my man, this guy, who also happens to be the frontman of the heavy metal band LORD. I love him dearly. :)
I also listen to a goodly whack of seventies and eighties style old-school hard rock, progrock, psychedelia and folk rock. And classical, too. I was brought up playing the violin, and I'm fairly reasonable on it, though I haven't yet done anything much of note despite owning a wildly excellent electric violin from John Jordan. Maybe one day, though at the moment I'm happy just noodling and doing the odd guest spot on LORD albums.
| | Movies | Most genres. Except for romances, and especially FUCKING ROMANTIC COMEDIES. Those can fuck right the hell off. Suffice to say I'm not a chick flick person. Also, natural disaster movies scare the living shit out of me.
That aside, I do like comedies in general... and sci-fi, fantasy, action, and horror. Showing me Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribbean, or most things by Mel Brooks, will make me vastly happy. | | Television | Red Dwarf, Monty Python, Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy, the Young Ones, Dr Who, House, Drawn Together, Top Gear, Mythbusters, David Attenborough docos, The Family Guy, Futurama, Adult Swim, the Muppets, Bugs Bunny, Scrubs, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, and cricket. | | Books | Katharine Kerr, Robin Hobb, Terry Pratchett, Ian Irvine, Grant Naylor, Cecilia Dart-Thornton, Margaret Weiss, Tracey Hickman, Janny Wurts, Isobelle Carmody, CS Lewis, Spike Milligan, Roald Dahl, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Tom Sharpe, Garth Nix, and JRR Tolkein. | | Heroes |
Greatest. Picture. Ever.
My brother Tim and sister Bec are on MySpace now as well! |

About me:
This is a personal profile! I'd like to get to know people, but I'm sick of being added by people with more sparkly graphics than brain cells, and ten thousand friends on their lists. If you don't already know me... don't add me, PLEASE MESSAGE ME AND I WILL ADD YOU. THIS INCLUDES BANDS. I hate doing it this way - it makes me sound up myself - but if I'm going to filter out the spammers and friendwhores, it's got to be done. If you already know me, go ahead and add! :)
Now that that's over with... G'day! I'm Karyn, though many people will know me as Wenda.
I've been a few things in my time so far, but right now I'm putting my slightly ambiguous BSc to work as an industrial chemist for Bluescope Steel. I'm involved with the sampling and analysis of pollution emissions from the steelworks - a job which sees me working anywhere from an indoor laboratory, to climbing up the tallest stacks. It's often dirty, tough work, can be highly physically and mentally demanding... and I really love it :)
In the past I was a qualified fitness instructor, but I got disillusioned with a lot of the attitudes and the people I encountered in that industry. I don't think I really fitted in. I learnt a lot, though, and it was a great experience. I'm not particularly girly, but I can do myself up ok for the odd occasion. I'm short, athletic, and like having muscles. Not enough girls have nice arms, it's a terrible thing. There's much to be said for a good weights session.

Who I'd like to meet:
Mike Portnoy, Bruce Dickinson, Dave Mustaine, Chris Barrie, Robert Llewelyn, Dio, Jordan Rudess, Red Symons, Arjen Anthony Lucassen, Alice Cooper, Hansi Kursch, Brian May, the Brothers Chaps, Roger Waters, Pete Abrams, Mark Wood, Douglas Adams (RIP), Frank Zappa (RIP).
Leave me a comment! Just please, I don't like large graphics in my comments list. Anything I think is too big will be taken off - it makes my page load slower and screws with my layout. I don't like deleting comments, so don't make me do it. :)
