Little Eskimos are a band of musicians who all like to play different instruments and create music that means the world to them. They live in a small corner of the world, along the Ochil Hills in Central Scotland, and only came together in their current form earlier this year.
Kevin Harper is the singer and original core songwriter of the band, who wrote and produced the album "Are You Still With Us?" in his living room in 06/07. Almost by accident, this record was then the key for bringing Barry Mop (guitar) and Liam Chapman (drums, keyboard) to the party in August 08 due to their similar musical wavelengths and zeal. Through time, Alban Dickson (bass) extended the line up, strangely enough, by interviewing the guys after a show at the Tolbooth, Stirling. Either the questions were good or the charm was there.
Up until present, the band has been performing live around Central Scotland by replicating the songs from the album, with their fondest shows being alongside ‘Idlewild’ at a miniature festival in Coupar and with the Canadian ‘Throw Me The Statue’ at their tour gig in the ‘Captain’s Rest’, Glasgow. They have also enjoyed summer 09’ due to their debut performances at T in the Park, Wickerman Festival and Rowchester Festival. Little Eskimos will officially release “Are You Still With Us?” online this year whilst they create the new material for the second album, which will be co-written this time by the full band. There are already the beginnings of a relatively moody, emotional, uplifting and energetic sound within the new creations, ranging from sea-shanties to upbeat folk-rock and dance beats and an array instruments such as organs, accordions, percussion, space-echo and atmospheric keyboard samples. However, Little Eskimos are not the type of people who like to ‘pigeon-hole’ their music ideas.
The band are all very excited and ambitious about collaborating their new ideas together, however, they are devoted to extending the reach of the material from “Are you Still With Us?” to as many new listeners as possible, through their energetic and emotive stage shows. Little Eskimos also aim to focus on playing in more interesting and strange environments, furthering their travels in Britain and beyond, and dedicating more time to the personalisation of the art and video elements of the band.
They have many more ideas up their sleeves.
