Kitty's Interests
|
| General | I'm addicted to: knitting, sailing, dancing, writing, falling on my face in libraries, climbing on the lions at Trafalgar Square and getting stuck, reading, procrastinating, being a massive geek, people watching, stimulating parts of the human brain that are usually dormant with huge amounts of Red Bull until I actually have psychic powers such as headaches that are actually harbingers of prophetic visions of ladies being immolated on the ceiling and telekinetic powers such a flinging wardrobes across rooms in order to rescue my brother. Or, you know, not. Attempting to be less petty, Pirates, Cake, Pirates in Space, Sitting around in my kitchen in my pyjamas with my housemates from the moment I get up until it's time for my post-Neighbours nap, Fatty Fatty Slut Slut our adopted cat, receiving bribes of cake from Emma's little sister, procrastinating, jaffa cakes, not doing my laundry until the absolute very last minute and then ruining all my whites with stray socks and shrinking all my woollens, going to Club Sandwich and then regretting it in the morning, falling in love with people purely because of some random cute thing they did this one time when they didn't know I was watching, getting the feminist rage, leopard print, slash, cinema, dad rock, dancing like a spaz, shoes, wanderlust and strawberry laces, to name but a few. | | Music | At the moment... Beth Orton, Death Cab For Cutie, The Go! Team, The Who, Le Tigre, Tom Waits, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, Metro, Love Is All, CSS, British Sea Power, Led Zepplin, Hot Chip, etc | | Movies | Lost in Translation, The Life Aquatic, Broken Flowers (all sad-faced Bill Murray films). Action/Adventure/80s-tasti
c spectaculars: Speed, Indiana Jones, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, Die Hard, Cocktail... Epics/Mini epics: Labyrinth, Lord of the Rings, Willow, Alexander (directors cut), King Arthur (directors cut)... Sci-Fi and comedy: Serenity, Monty Python, Shaun of the Dead, Harry Potter (film three and onwards), 28 Days Later, old school Star Trek films, Star Wars... The Classics: Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca... SNAKES ON A PLANE! | | Television | House, CSI, CSI: NY (mostly because I've come over with a giant lust for both Gary Sinise and the dude with the complicated name who plays Danny- SO HOT OMG), Prison Break, Spaced, The Mighty Boosh, Neighbours, Green Wing, Firefly, Supernatural, Stargate, Scrubs (thank God for E4), Torchwood a little bit for being quite bad and very gay and very geeky, pretty much anything on TMF (My Super Sweet Sixteenth anyone?)... | | Books | Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander series is so incredible. It's that rarest of things, a historical series that is perfect in the minutest detail, but has amazing characterisation. Even if I have to translate the sailor talk sections using my Dad's copy of Practical Boat Owner. James Joyce- Dubliners. Italo Calvino- Invisible Cities easily one of the most beautiful books I have ever read, I stongly recommend it. Alexandre Dumas- Three Musketeers, my security blanket book. Kafka- The Trial, Sylvia Plath- The Bell Jar, Chuck Palahnuik- Fight Club, Harry Potter books and Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series for pure childish geekery and good old fashioned story telling. And goblins.
| | Heroes | Foaly: “IF ALIVE PLSE HELP. IF NOT, WRONG NMBR.” (Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident, Eoin Colfer)
Stephen Maturin: "Jack, you have debauched my sloth." (HMS Surprise, Patrick O'Brian)
"Must I put on silk stockings?"
"Certainly you must put on silk stockings. And do show a leg, my dear chap: we shall be late, without you spread a little more canvas."
"You are always in such a hurry," said Stephen peevishly, groping among his possessions. A Montpellier snake glided out with a dry rustling sound and traversed the room in a series of extraordinarily elegant curves, its head held up some eighteen inches above the ground.
"Oh, oh, oh," cried Jack, leaping on to a chair. "A snake!"
"Will these do?" asked Stephen. "They have a hole in them."
"Is it poisonous?"
"Extremely so. I dare say it will attack you, directly. I have very little doubt of it. Was I to put the silk stockings over my worsted stockings, sure the hole would not show: but then, I should stifle with heat. Do you not find it uncommonly hot?"
"Oh, it must be two fathoms long. Tell me, is it really poisonous? On your oath now?"
"If you thrust your hand down its throat as far as its back teeth you may meet a little venom; but not otherwise..." (Master and Commander, Patrick O'Brian)
Marco Polo: "The inferno of the living is not something that will be; if there is one, it is what is already here, the inferno where we live every day, that we form by being together. There are two ways to escape suffering it. The first is easy for many: accept the inferno and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of the inferno, are not inferno, then make them endure, give them space." (Invisible Cities, Italo Calvino)
Italo Calvino: "The unconscious is the ocean of the unsayable, of what has been expelled from the land of language, removed as a result of ancient prohibitions." |

Kitty's Blurbs |
About me:
I am sort of tall and sort of thin and sort of lazy. Most people call me Kitty, although my name is Georgina, which makes no sense so don't try to understand it. Everything on the right side of my body is bigger than everything on my left. I like pink, wine, and my friends. I dislike yellow, vodka and spiders.
I do some blogging over at my LiveJournal, and there are pictures of things on Facebook.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
Nice friends. Someone who owns their own ice cream van.
