It's with a heavy heart and weighted fingers that I have to write this to you all. At around 5:30pm, we helped guide Louie to heaven. He was suffering immensely, even in the oxygen chamber. He couldn't breath despite the sedatives, the oxygen, the medication. I simply couldn't let him suffer any longer. The doctor recommended a tracheal stent but we denied it. He was simply too fragile and old for the outcome to be successful. To let him have to suffer through infections or not surviving through such a strenuous surgery wasn't fair. Today was by far the hardest day I have ever had to face. Jay, my mother and I said goodbye to him and were there while he passed. My little angel, the one who did so much for so many people in this world has now received his wings and is in his eternal home where I know someday I will see him again. This hurts more then I could ever describe in words and I know it will hurt so many of you out there despite never being able to meet him....I know you loved him.
Thank you all so, so much for all of your support, prayers and warm thoughts. Your prayers have always helped him in the past but this time someone up above made it clear that it was his time. Louie has been fighting tracheal disease and lung disease for years now and I can only say we were blessed, so...so blessed to have him be apart of our lives. No dog, no animal, nothing will ever compare to our dear Louie. I am having his body cremated so he can always be with us, no matter what.
Thank you all again. Godspeed Lou. My god, do I love you and I will forever miss you. I'm sorry to everyone out there who knew and loved him...it was his time and I couldn't let him suffer any longer.
SLEEPING with mommy and daddy on the bed (never on the floor!), eating as much as possible, sunning myself outside in the summer and going everywhere possible with mom on car rides

The Kiss ...
He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire.
She is pregnant.
When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest.
A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer, " noticed her in the distance looking at the fireman.
He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do.
As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies and kissed him just as the photographer snapped this photograph.
My mom for saving me from that awful shelter!!

Dear friends,
It's amazing. I've never met most of you and yet you have all touched our hearts in so many ways. There has been such traffic on Lou's comment board that I haven't nor will not be able to re-comment on every single thought and prayer due to there being so many, so please know that we are so grateful to all of you, each and every one for all of the emails and thoughtful comments you've posted on his site when he was sick, before and of course, present.
Louie's touched so many lives, so many people in so many ways. Unfortunately, most of you have never gotten the chance to meet him. Some of you have, randomly at Pet Rock (a rescue charity event every year held in Worcester) others at other random spots such as the pom agility show in Fitchburg. I cannot tell you how many times we've stumbled onto people who run up to him saying "oh my god! It's Little Louie, is that him? I've seen him on myspace" and it always keeps me in awe how many lives he's touched online, how many strangers adore him and love him almost as much as me. Louie's touched the hearts of so many people-first mine at the animal control in Rosindale (Boston) MA. Then when we started him as a registered therapy dog, I never in a million years knew what a gift he really had of making people smile. We would visit with the non-profit volunteer group Caring Canines (www.caringcanines.org) to nursing homes as well as the children's hospital in Boston, MA. No matter how sick a child was, whether it was a leukemia stricken young toddler to an older elderly woman stuck in some nursing home that their family left them at to be alone until they die-Louie has always had this miraculous gift of giving everyone something to smile about when they held them in their arms. He's touched the lives of thousands of elderly patients as well as many children who may never see the outside of a hospital for the rest of their life. Some people used to ask, "how do you do it? How do you visit these children who are so sick without becoming depressed?" How? I reply. It's because when we would go there, their sadness would dwindle away, a smile would be replaced on a frown as Louie would be held by then like a little baby on his back. Louie's touched both nursing home patients as well as child patients who are scared to death of dogs, frightened beyond belief, overcome their fear. I've worked with children who fear dogs after our visit love him as well as nursing home patients who once in their life been attacked by a dog, ask to hold him in their arms. To me, Louie is not just a dog, he's an angel in disguise. I have only had the opportunity to have him for three years of his life, and in those three years he's worked miracles for people. Now, now it's my turn. The tables have turned, he's helped the needy, the sick and lonely, now it's my turn to try and help him. So many people and animals have left me in this lifetime and I'm only 25. The two most important people in my life, my grandparents both died right in front of my eyes at the age of 18. My only real family as of now is my fiance and friends...and my dogs. I choose this road, the road of rescuing animals. I've dealt with foster dogs dying on me as well as my recent loss of my beloved borrowed angel Cooper last April and I simply cannot loose Louie without a fight. it takes.
Thank you for understanding and being there so much. Both me and my fiance are overwhelmed with how many actual loving and caring people are out there...you all bring tears to my eyes in just thinking how special each and every one of you are.

WHO I AM:
I'm a seven year old rescue pomeranian. My mom Leigha, rescued me from Boston Animal Control in MA two years ago. I was severely neglected for five years by a lady and her children who never took care of me. When I was found in the shelter, I was bald with sores all over my body and emaciated. The awful woman who owned me before my mom now never took care of me and told the animal control officer that her kids were not taking care of me so she wasn't about to (her kids were 10 and 14!). When my mom found me we fell in love with each other at first sight and she brought me home as soon as possible!
Since I was bought originally from a petstore (from what the first lady told the A.C. about me) I have many health problems due to most likely being sold from a puppymill. I have collapsing trachea, laryngeal paralysis and a thyroid problem that will now constrict me from ever growing hair back on my naked body, which is okay cause mom dresses me up in hoodies, turtlenecks, pj's, you name it! I am a registered therapy dog that used to go to the Children's hospital once a month as well as numerous nursing homes across the North Shore, but since we moved back to Worcester we haven't had the opportunity to find anywhere around here, plus this winter has been rough on me being sick and all, so my mom decided as of last year to retire me as a registered therapy dog.
I also am the mascot for my mom's softball team and even have a referee shirt that I wear to her games!!
