Land of Nod says Natalie Merchant at the listenin station. Mr. Warren Truitt says a little bit of Fairport Convention and Linda Ronstadt. Others have said Donovan, Beatles, Kirsten Hirsh of the Throwing Muses. Hey, I take sounding like any of these people as a compliment.
Ann Torralba (Little Miss Ann) has been working with children for over 15 years. Previously, she worked as a Special Education teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. During this time, she also fronted a band called "Jank". It wasn't until she became a mother herself, that she found her passion in children's music. Frustrated at the isolation of being a first-time mother, she pulled out her guitar and started playing for the other mothers on her block. Thankfully, these patient moms endured those first few playdates as Torralba learned how to play childrens classics. Torralba then went on to work at The Old Town School of Folk Music as a Wiggleworms instructor. For the past four years, she has led classes for parents and their babies. After listening to Elizabeth Mitchell's "You are my flower" and the encouragement of friends, Torralba decided to make Little Miss Ann: Music for Tots. The combination of Torralba's earthy vocals, folk guitar strumming, drumming husband, Patrick and singing daughter, Olivia has made a unique sounding cd that has been well-received by children, parents, non-breeders, teachers, and even some dogs. Torralba has played kids concerts throughout Chicago at fests, bars, schools, and parks, including Millenium Park. Today, Torralba works at Old Town School of Folk music and as an educational consultant in the Chicago Public Schools. You can also read some of her writings in kidsmusicinchicago.com. Torralba regularly donates concerts to causes that benefit children.
