Wolves for Winter requires complete attention from the listener to notice the strength of the song writing and the beauty of the lyrics- its weakness is that it doesn’t draw us in and capture our attention from the get-go. A little effort may be required by the listener, but Deeter gets it right in three out of the four songs on this release, providing for a strong listen and incentive to keep an eye out for any future releases.

Brooklyn’s Joshua Deeter is an acoustic folkie whose songs have an endearing, living- room warmth about them. A promising start to what I hope will be a prolific career for Mr. Deeter.

[Little Mountain] is simple singer songwriter music with an accoustic guitar and campfire chords, but also played with lots of heart and really nice lyrics. Sometimes it reminds me of Spiritualized, but the songs happen to be more on the sad side. The songs carry me away but I usually get very calm when listening to it. This doesn't sound fake or like a bad copy of anything, it's just simple good music, which has more worth and is more art than a lot of the stuff I otherwise hear. Heart rending.

Joshua Deeter’s guitar has a voice all of its own. He deftly combines that with clever lyrics sung through a voice that hosts a genuine attitude and a soon-to-be renowned knack for harmony. On “Wolves For Winter” he tackles the age-old acoustic guitar singer/songwriter cliché and does so with an intimidating gusto that laughs away the dust off of your dad’s library of acoustic rockers’ 45”s. Art rock that’s lovely.

You can feel the potential in these four songs. The potential of a potent band not veering too far off course but taking the neccessary steps that would get Deeter out of the possible “singer/songwriter” stereotyped trap. Now with band members, maybe Little Mountain is already heading in the right direction, towards taking great but simple craftsmanship and putting a more original stamp on their sound. After all, in Brooklyn it’s not exactly easy to separate yourself from the myriad of musical acts that call the borough home, but Little Mountain may just end up being a diamond in the overpopulated rough.

Not for the easily depressed.

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...nothing like the view from a little mountain - too low for clouds, too high for earth, just right for about everything else
