Each month the Num Num Club features around half a dozen of the best in local, regional and national acoustic(ish) musicians as well as your host Chris Helme and Andy 'CardboardCaineFuzz' Gaines on the Wheels of Steel!

Acts to have played the club in the past include: Shed 7, Vib Gyor, Adrian Byron Burns, Boss Caine, Grammatics, Hayley Hutchinson, Cardboard Radio, Jim Gipson, David Ward Maclean, Carl Woodford, Mike Newsham, Holly Taymar, Dave Keegan, Rob Hughes, Stevie Jones, Moonshine Creek and many more!

Doors are at 7:30pm sharp, and the first act on not long after. Advanced, reduced price tickets are available from the venue.

Hey Folks.

Another fine gig brought to you by us schemers at basement!

Tuesday 8 July, 8.00

Apollo 15 & Giddy Equations presents The Federals + Swim Team + The Devil In + Ramshackles

The Federals are precocious garage punk legends. Having recently toured with Jo Lean And The Jing Jang Jong, this is one of their few York gigs this Summer, so miss them at your peril!!

Devon’s contributions to rock music thus far include Muse and Coldplay. So while the home of cream teas doesn’t rock out too often, when it does it makes sure its bands go on to be the biggest in the world. Whether the same will happen to Swim Team remains to be seen, but they’ve certainly got a sound big enough to take them well beyond Devon’s borders if not all the way to Wembley.

Drawing from a wide array of influences to create something all of their own, the songs of The Devil In are predominantly rock yet merged with elements of numerous other genres to create something truly original yet at the same time full of passion and emotion. Their sound echoes aspects of indie, hardcore, punk, electronica and post-rock. Guitars jump from being jangly and upbeat to delicate and beautiful, whilst the dual vocals move from melodic choruses to full blown shouting in the blink of an eye.

Ramshackles are blissfull piano layered pop perfection. Brother and Sister combo James and Sphie Ramm craft elegant harmonious and fluid songs that will elevate your spirits without a trace of sentinmentality.

Wednesday 23rd April 8.00pm

Apollo 15 presents Copy Haho + Captains Of Industry + I’m Sorry Callfield

Scotland’s new post-punk heroes. Copy Haho deliver catchy riffs and understated melodies as championed by Steve Lamaq. A recent review of their 7 inch ‘Spitfires’ reads thus…. “It's a rare thing indeed for a song from a review CD by a band I've never heard of to make it on to my daily bus ride favourite songs playlist and much much rarer for both songs to go on the playlist and still be there two months later. Ergo, Copy Haho are something special.” (Diskant) Need you know more?

Hello.

Saturday 19th April 8.00pm

Apollo 15 presents Mossyrock + Broken Belles + Edwina Hayes + Ellen

Experimental combo Mossyrock from Brooklyn blend electronic and folk pop. Their rich, ethereal melodies are like the greatest daydream you never had. Broken Belles’s lyrical and musical influences stretch far and wide, their sound combines fluid acoustic and languid harmonies to a beautifully uplifting effect. Edwina Hayes’ sweet americana country soul will melt you heart and sooth your ears. Ellen’s understated yet beguiling lyrics are delivered with a vocal that reminds one of Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval. An occasion not to be missed.

Tickets; £6/£5 flyer/NUS

Look how much fun this will be.......................

Shortly before they release their second record 'The Midnight Organ Flight', the wonderful Frightened Rabbit bless York with a one off Basement Bar show. Signed to Fat Cat, home to Sigur Ros, Mum and Animal Collective their this new album has been recorded by Peter Katis (Interpol, Mercury Rev) and may send them off to much dizzier heights. Fresh from three shows at SXSW.

Oxford Collapse are from New York, signed to Sub Pop and will be spending most of April supporting We Are Scientists on somewhat larger stages than The Basement! A surprise and a treat to have them in York. Kinda indie pop, kinda power pop, kinda poppy pop(?!) Oxford Collapse are a sun-drenched delight.

Missing Kids and Burial In The Sky (featuring Lou from Red Trees and Mike from The Static Waves) support.

Ticket purchase recommended. 0871 704 2054 or www. picturehouses. co. uk.
