About me:
(my page looks screwed up w/ mozilla... haven't mastered it's secret language yet i think)
..when speaking,
i am a diminished child.
- vladimir nabokov..
i having been born of goodly mormon parents was entirely home-schooled through grade 9. sheltered from the carnal influences of public education, or rather preserved, while still young & unscathed by the church's worst enemies- humanists, homosexuals, & feminists (i will note however not sheltered from the occasional airplane crash in the backyard, some might say she was trying to tell us something). i performed religion in more ways than one, i recited the articles of faith, i memorized scripture, i (painfully admit) sang soloist children's hymns in sacrament meetings, i refrained from tea & masterbation so i could look the bishop in the eye at our interviews. somewhere between stitching seedy eyelids onto clothdolls for wednesday craft night, and wearing a tampon in the baptismal fount doing baptisms for the dead (a most unclean sin- worthy of lightning strikes certainly), the religion in me died.
i wish my family could be based on something solid. there is an embroidered saying in mormonism, "families are forever", but it's a requisite. families can be based upon different things. i adore musical families. charitable families. laughing, cooking good food, watching-tv, keeping secrets, bird-watching, whatever they are, they are solid. the consistency of my religion around the time i went to girl's camp was like marshmellow poop. higher education dissolved it completely. if i have faith, it's in humanity, in love, & hardly anything else. but faith is like lava, mine melted, but my mother's has hardened into rock. i'm a useless arm to our family, & it breaks my heart that in her nightmares i am her child lost in hell, looking for her family that has gone to heaven. latter-day evangelical garbage. however i'm very thankful for the mormon upbringing i had & the vast education in history & natural science... it's given me eyes now that truly are pearls of great price.
i'm very interested in antique taxidermy pieces... i feel it's a bit like collecting unwanted cemetary headstones- if cemetary headstones were unwanted... because a lot of people keep animals they kill as trophies for what they've done. it's a terribly disrespectful hobby in many cases... & i suppose i'm drawn to historically disrespectful & ignorant practices. i think it's a good idea to organize tragedy into a metaphorical museum & keep it there for further examination. i also collect a lot of housewife manuals from the 1950's & so on... history is marvelous.
the wee darlings of my life, mia (kitty), & possum pal- who lives in the backyard but sometimes plays in the dollhouse.
the other darlings of my life are the creations of artists i admire. i believe in supporting the work by buying prints & collecting important pieces whenever possible. i don't pretend to be an artist, although i do practice drawing. portraits & pin-ups are my favorite subjects, however i have a long way to go before i'll consider myself bonafide. i'm searching for the time to learn wood-working for the purpose of making miniatures & dollhouse furniture. if you live in portland & can teach miniatures & wood-working please drop me a line.

Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
