   Living Blues's Blurbs
About me:
Living Blues is America's oldest and most authoritative blues magazine. Founded in Chicago in 1970, Living Blues has set the standard for blues journalism around the world. From its first issue, which featured blues legend Howlin’ Wolf on the cover, Living Blues has provided fans with insightful, in-depth stories on such legendary blues artists as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Koko Taylor, and John Lee Hooker. In addition, Living Blues has focused on true creative originals like Otha Turner, Chris Thomas King, and Super Chikan, artists often overlooked by other blues press. We also feature current Blues News, "Breaking Out" articles on up and coming artists, blues radio charts and the most extensive CD and DVD review section in the industry. Published bimonthly, Living Blues is renowned for its detailed feature stories and exceptional photography. Our regular contributors include the absolute best in blues journalism, including Jim O’Neal, (who co-founded Living Blues in 1970), Barry Lee Pearson, John Brisbin, David Whiteis, Jim DeKoster, and Roger Wood. We also publish the Living Blues Directory, an annual industry guide of blues clubs, radio stations, societies, festivals, artists and agents – the only such source book for the industry. As blues music moves into its second century, Living Blues continues to discover new talent, re-examine old masters and explore the roots of America’s most important gift to the music of the world: the Blues. www.livingblues.com I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

The Billybats

“The Billy Bats are a two-piece from Kansas, consisting of Jason Vivone on guitar and vocals, and Zach McCall on drums and vocals. As such, comparisons to the White Stripes seem inevitable. Indeed, a song like ‘Tangled’ could in fact be the Stripes. However, what stops them becoming mere copyists is that their Blues influences appear genuine. There’s an Elmore James feel to ‘Crash and Burn’, a Wolf vocal married to a Hooker boogie on ‘Subtle Nuance’, and a Robert Plant lustiness to ‘Kung Pow Chicken’. It’s fat, bassy music with plenty of space in it. They’ve retained the rhythm of the Blues form but dispensed with the histrionic guitar parts. What the Billy Bats have in their arsenal that gives them their own identity is a deadpan sense of humor, such as the ‘MSG is good for you’ chant in ‘Kung Pow Chicken’; the furtive development of a fledgling relationship in ‘Bed or Sofa’; or in the kookiness of love song ‘Sweet Pea’. It’s too adult and knowing to capture the teenage market the Stripes have, but for those with a taste for irony and off kilter Blues then you should find something to sink your teeth into here.”

When I take the time to sit down and look at people pasing by I don't stop thinking about how fantastic life is and even the creation of man. Think about all the parts that have to/should work together. It is not strange that something goes wrong from time to time. This weeks link is The Bluesmates version of Assembly Line. Wishing you a great weekend with some good music. Take care. Blues'on my friend. Grandpa_Erik
