Band MembersNorth Indian Classical SITAR DILRUBA TABLA TANPURA BANSURI swarmandal...Arabic percussion family: DOUMBEKS, riq, FRAME DRUMS, TAR, BENDIR, muzhar..Persian ZARB, Deff, a little Setar...the FLEUGELHORN, Trumpet...GONGS, Singing Bowls, Conch shells, Bird calls...Dancer's BELLS, CYMBALS and Shaman's rattles from across continents...West African DJEMBE...Latin percussion family: CONGA, Clave, CAHON...Various Ecstatic religious, folk and tribal instruments such as EKTARA, Gopichand, Hudak, Harmonium, Mbira, Moseno, Njah, Saz... This is as complete a list as I'm able to produce of the many musical instruments with which I utilize to heal and create music with.
InfluencesI was influenced to arrive here on planet Earth by the unimagineably beautiful unstruck sounds-beyond-sounds calling to me, the spinning gravity symetry symphony of this entirely unique Solar System, the Gandharvic 'angels' singing, perhaps strumming their harps and chanting the music which was to eventually become my physical body. I just had to listen and hear that music so I could know it more closely. The Music changed over time to resemble the Sounds of this life I began here roughly 35 years ago, when i was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA... I adored my mother's habit of putting on Classical, folk and a little jazz music on the HiFi at home, and exposing me to stage shows and concerts throughout my younger years. I had a early fascination with hard rock and early metal music, bands like Kiss, I had all their albums, among mostly Seasame Street kids stuff, Elvis and Little Richard 'Greatest Hits' album I remember fondly, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, lots of soundtracks to the cool movies in the mid-to-late 70's, Star Wars etc.... I commenced my musician life teaching myself to play the harmonica when I was 9 years old as part of a school project where I played some old-timey folk songs and cartoon themes (I can still remember most of them to this day). Soon after I began some lessons on the snare drum, but within a year had become a very serious student of the trumpet, which I played in everything from concert wind ensembles, symphony orchestras and jazz combos which lead me (and my family moving to New Jersey at a key moment in my 8th grade existence) to study Western classical and jazz musics in-depth at places like the Juilliard School and The Manhattan School of Music in New York City with some of the best musicians available to me at the time. Foresaking classical music (for good I believed at the time) I returned to Chicago on a full scholarship to study jazz, completed two years and then set out into real-world music: late-night jazz, improvisation and spontaneous composition, Funk R&B dance band horn section work, pit orchestras, Acid Jazz, Free-Jazz, harmelodics, and then somewhere along the way an irresistible force placed me once again with a drum, this time congas and djembes, played with the open hands. I began to change into a fundamentally different kid of a musician than what I had trained my entire life to be. The sounds of the entire World let themselves be heard to me, through contact with recordings, gifted fellow musicians and teachers, performing opportunities and years of disciplined research, practice and experimentation with the instruments and musical forms of the most highly developed ancient and modern acoustically realized ecstatic healing sound scientists, alchemists, and shaman-class citizens around in our world today, I've transformed into the professional multi-instrumentalist and musical healer I am today. Music is th Universal Language of Health and Community on this planet we all inhabit, and my musicianship is my constant ritual service to Humanity to bring about a greater level of 'fluency' in this language for myself and my diverse and evolving community of World citizens.
Sounds LikeThe (nearly) infinite cycles of consonance, euphonics, and dissonance which is the electro-magneto-gravitational harmony of the spheres, accelerated or reduced by cosmic octaves into the vibratory realm of human bio-rhythmic and auditory perceptions, artistically rendered on the breath, wood, goatskin, resonant metals, and electronic devices, with the intention of healing the world.

Alexander has been developing his multi-discplined musical alchemy for more than two decades. His practice has evolved into a continuous devotional and scientific investigation and application into the deepest, most profound mysteries of harmonic and rhythmic sound on himself and his diverse growing audiences. Purely professionally speaking, he is a gifted musical artist capable of displaying exceptional traditional techniques, song forms, and rhythms on a wide variety of acoustic classical and folk instruments from around the globe, most especially from India, Africa, Arabia and Tribal cultures. His highest aspirations involve contributing to the (re)birth and perpetual sustenance of a world-wide Universal Ecstatic Healing Sound Culture. To state it as simply as possible, he strongly believes that exceptionally well-disciplined, self-realized (primarily acoustically initiated) musicians are the Shaman-class citizens in our modern World community. They are the only human beings uniquely born and conditioned to balance and harmonize the dissonances present in our collective physical, emotional, mental, tribal, and societal/moral environments. Modern musical people are already engaged in this vital healing work, albeit on very mundane levels, by performing the concerts, jam sessions, dance-parties, recording sessions, festivals, club gigs, anywhere where live music is offered to 'uplift' people, from the highest to the lowest places. The more especially brave, flexibly-minded, multi-cultured musicians there are alive today who are willing to make the spiritual sacrifices necessary to attain to the basic (yet nearly impossible to behold) essential common creative wisdom that Musical Art is the greatest HEALING SCIENCE known to all past, present and future generations, the healthier and more balanced both the human race and the earth and all of its inhabitants will be. We are the great orators and translators of the Universal Language, we sing with the Harmony of Nature and the Galactic movements, the Universal Song. As individuals, we must all come realize why we are here: to more fully learn Universal Structure, and that we accomplish this most successfully through the powers of MUSIC. As artists participating as Shaman-Class-World-Citizens, we must grow more conscious of our connections, how we can become more like our music, like sound-threads weaving together the cultures of the world, balancing hatred with tolerance, healing our many 'bodies' (physical, emotional, spiritual, what have you) ridding ourselves and our communities of disease and self-destructive behaviors, ideally growing humanity into a more perfected, self-realized bunch of true WORLD CITIZENS.
