Stevie Ray Vaughan R.I.P. 27.8.90
"i learned how to play slide with a kraft pimento cheese jar and a baby food jar, worn on my middle and ring fingers together. After a while,i started using shot glasses, wine glasses, champagne glasses, beer glasses. It got to be funny,i'd use whatever was around....." SRV
Think the blues and soul from Jimi Hendrix, the power of Rage against the Machine, and a dash of funk from the Chilli Peppers and what do you have....?
i have'nt worked that one out yet but i will let you know when i do.
Which brings to mind a little band from the Hawkesbury, you might know 'em,you might of heard of them, could it have been on a documentary on the discovery channel you wonder?......i think not boy's and girls......it is and there for can only be one,one being the number one, and one, last time i heard meant....well it meant one (as in singular).
Meet Hawkesbury's favourite little reptile "Lizard",a four piece groove thing that will have you bouncing off the walls (bouncing off the walls is entirely up to the individual, the band does not endorse nor are liable for any injuries incurred during these activities.bouncing off the walls is your choice...)and leave's the audience wanting more (usually stuff like "more,f@ken more" or "play some chisel") Originally conceived in a tiny shed in Windsor in the mid 90's by Jason Dowse and Matt Charnley, born to two fathers who would later become brother's in law when one would marry the other's sister(it is a bit confusing is'nt it?) .The pair enlisted localite Andy Melinz and unleashed thier massiveness on the local circuit that would later be the staple of the 'Lizard" sound. After a brief stint ,Matt Reynolds (ex "milk") replaced Melinz on the drum stool thus breathing a new fire into the 3 piece and propelling them further into extended jam sessions and new intricate arrangements.
In early 2004,the band recorded thier first e.p. at Zen Studios ,and with Melinz now back in the fold they finished with a strong 4 song offering including crowd favourite "best of me" and the vocally/guitar driven "beautiful".The band finished off the year with a few main supports and sell out show's around town including Purelode at the Metro and local rocker's and good friends N.R.N.R. at the Excelsior.
Nearly two years to the date with things progressing well for the group, Matt Charnley was involved in a swing accident(that's right kid's,a swing) which left him with a broken wrist and unable to fulfill his duties on guitar.A phone call was made and N.R.N.R.'s Rob Chapple and Noel Guanzon we're called in to fill the spot,Dowse moving up to guitar with Chapple ,with Guanzon filling the bass role.Chapple stayed on until Charnley was able to resume his position on guitar,he liked it so much he's still there to this day.
2008 saw the now 4 piece enter Release Studios and begin working on what would become there first full length album. With Tim Walter at the helm the band punched out 13 tracks, some new ,some old, in the space of 4 days. With early Lizard classics like "live in peace" and the massive "sicka" being rejuvenated ,to newly penned southern rocker "egypto", "dribble chin",and the monster that would be known as "can't decide" the band definately we're starting to gel and we're creating something quite unique.
Late August saw the departure of Melinz and the refilling of the drum stool by Matty Reynolds thus igniting the old flame but with a new breathe. With airplay on independant local radio this also saw several songs from the album picked up and being used for a local t.v. program.
So....still don't know who Lizard is?
