Liz Longley will graduate from Berklee College of Music in 2010 having been awarded their highest honor for songwriting, the Scott Benson Scholarship. Her song "Rush" was chosen as the No. 1 song in Berklee's 2009 Songwriting Competition, and “Whatever Goes Up” was the No. 2 song in the contest a year ago. An engaging performer, Liz was selected by Berklee in ‘09 to represent the school at the annual Kennedy Center Conservatory Project in Washington, DC.
Her prowess in music is not strictly academic. Recent songs won Liz recognition in a trifecta of songwriting competitions in the folk scene for 2009: New Folk finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival, Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and Grand Prize Winner of the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival’s Songwriter Showcase. Liz Longley is a powerhouse songwriter with all the tools that make her the “find” of the folk scene for 2009.
‘The Telegraph’ of New Hampshire says, "Longley’s songs swell with honesty and genuine emotion that most of us are unable to admit to but recognize all the same.” Pop icon John Mayer broke into an impromptu rendition of Liz’s song ‘Queen’ during a visit to Berklee and has described her music as “gorgeous.” The Washington Post agrees and adds, “This voice won’t stay small long… singer-songwriter Liz Longley seems destined for a bigger audience.”
Liz is often accompanied by guitar talent Sarah Zimmermann. The two team-up for engaging vocal harmonies and a rapport with audiences that is filling venues throughout the region. In addition to regularly sharing the stage with Livingston Taylor, Liz has opened for acclaimed acts such as Colin Hay, Nanci Griffith, Kenny Rankin and Jonathan Edwards.
Karla Bonoff, Joni Mitchell, The Weepies!!!!, John Mayer, Paula Cole, Paul Simon, Dionne Warwick, Eva Cassidy, Fleetwood Mac, Low Millions, Jessica Andrews, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, Linda Ronstadt, Alison Krauss, Coldplay, Carole King, Train, Five for Fighting, Aretha, Ella, James Taylor, India.Arie, Nicole Nordeman, Train... and the list gets longer...

opening for Lucy Kaplanksy
I live for a good song and a great show. And peanut butter.
I grew up listening to Joni Mitchell and Karla Bonnoff. My dad would drive me around in our pea green Volkswagen buggy (which I called the wee-wee car) with the top rolled down and the music turned up so Joni Mitchell's 'Circle Game' was heard above the hum of the engine.
In high school, I was a marching band nerd. I played clarinet and in my senior year, I was a drum major. Marching band is where I met Sarah Zimmermann, the guitar goddess. We've been playing together for 5 years now. We're musical soul mates. :)
I've been blessed with amazing, devoted fans who come to shows with car loads of friends and family. I love you guys.
I like to donate blood. Try it sometime.
What I'm most proud of:
In October I ran my first marathon, the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon, to honor the life of my late cousin, Lt. Travis L. Manion. Check out his page on my top friends.

Thanks for the add Liz. I had a listen to your tunes. You have earned your accolades. You write lovely songs and sing expressively. Is that your friend Sarah playing on "Ain't too Good to be True"? Wonderful guitar on that song - alludes a little to Amos Garrett.
You're voice is just lovely...it's so easy to get lost in your sound.
I would love to meet you at some point... it seems as though we have a lot of the same influences-- it would be fun to talk music. Hopefully I will run into you around Berklee, or perhaps at a show :-)
hey Liz!! thank you so much for the kind words - we met at the end of Livingston's class one wednesday morning, and i'm so glad we did- your stuff is phenomenal! hope to run into you sooner rather than later... maybe do some writing?
Perhaps you noticed - I bought your most recent CD (received Take You Down yesterday) and will try and make some P & P for a few local sites I contribute to. Kind regards,
