"These days, with so many solipsistic, narcissistic singer-songwriters who are seemingly unable to sing about anything but themselves, it’s refreshing to encounter a performer like Liz Pappademas. The pianist — formerly of the Austin band Hurts to Purr and later based in San Francisco — recently relocated to Los Angeles and just released a collection of artful, intelligent original ballads, Eleven Songs." - LA Weekly
Austin musicians Gary Newcomb (Richard Buckner), Jeff Johnston (Bill Callahan), and Rob Sanchez (Monahans) contributed pedal steel, bass, and drums, respectively. Liz played piano, accordion, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes, and chamberlin. The record was mixed by Brian Kehew (Fiona Apple) who added a few parts on the Yamaha CS 1X, and 360 Systems keyboards.
Hey Liz: It was strange listening to "Hall Filled Up Like a Lake"--I have a scene in a story where people dance while a ballroom floods. The story link is on the "Read Me" part of my blog. Is that genetic you think? Anyhow, glad I'll be seeing you soon. xox Kate
I thought I heard Lemonade Adelaide Juice at the supermarket just now... But it turned out I was mistaken. I think I just had 5 Songs on the brain. That's all I had. Keep makin' sweet tunes!
Hey Liz! It was good seeing you last night. Red Maids are great! If you don't have any shows or plans this Friday, please come to my solo show! I would love to see you there.
there was a man sitting next to me on the train on my way to work, blasting music on his ipod, and the voice sounded just like yours, which made me happy. hope you are doing well. :) laura
Rabid Dog is SO good. It makes we thing, "Jesus died for somebodies sins, but not mine," and the age old question, "what would you do for a Klondike bar?"
Seeing the gonzo marching band was totally random for me. The accordians are defintely the magic of the band. Can't hardly hear them tho. Oh well, I know who I was watching! haha. xo
I see we have the pleasure of sharing Tangier time with you on April 2nd! Unfortunately, we've been given the unseemly task of following you. Woe is us, and we can't wait to see you!
Thanks for singing with us tonight. Tim thought your vocal stylings were Carter Family-esque. You rule and are welcome aboard anytime.
(FYI: Lake Rod's Beer was discovered by our intrepid pedal steel player on a journey to the northern regions of Bordello's Stage, CA. You may catch a glimpse of its shoreline when you play there on the 25th.)
You've a very kind lady, Liz Pappademas. Nobody was keeping that close a tally last night, but we're pretty sure you were the coolest person at The Echo. Mazel Tov!
