Lonely Mattress Salesman is a 3-piece piano driven rock band from San Diego (now residing in Los Angeles) who brings power and intensity to the seemingly wussy piano-rock genre. Edgier then Keane, less preening then Coldplay, more mainstream then Radiohead and stronger vocally then Ben Folds, LMS has a unique presence in the LA rock scene. Imagine Muse and the Beatles in a knife fight while Chris Martin officiates. A guitar-less band has never sounded so huge. One listen to their newly recorded demo will confirm that their slogan is no exaggeration, “Piano rock that actually rocks.”
The Shows
Lonely Mattress Salesman has been playing venues throughout San Diego and Los Angeles such as the House of Blues, Whisky A-Go-Go, the Mint, Cane’s Bar and Grill, San Diego Sports Club, and the Jumping Turtle. One of their more notable shows was opening for SD’s favorite local boys gone big, Reeve Oliver at popular San Diego venue Soma.
Lonely Mattress Salesman live show is a combination of intricate, flowing bass lines, mesmerizing and brawny vocals, melodic piano smashing, and precise, heart-pounding drums.
The Story
Buying a mattress is a pretty uneventful part of life. Who knew that this would become the inspiration behind the new piano driven rock band, Lonely Mattress Salesman. The name was created by front man Steve Loase (nickname “Low-C” stemming from the pronunciation of his last name), inspired by an extended mattress shopping spree. “Every shop I stepped into was dead empty, except one salesman in the corner, white shirt, black tie, who sprung to his heels when the front door chimed. What I realized from each of these encounters was that these men did not just want to get a sale; they were looking for some sort of human contact and social affirmation. So as an homage to these ‘lonely mattress soldiers’ I dedicated the band name to them. Long live LMS.
