Loafer’s Glory, Western N.C.’s first rural roots-rock band, began as a country jam band in the mountains of Yancey County, NC. Between 1975 and 1979, the Loafers played to packed houses on the roadhouse circuit from D.C. to Atlanta. With Asheville as home base and making frequent stops in Charlotte, the five-piece guitar combo found a unique niche in the “outlaw music” era by melding hillbilly music with western swing into a hybrid that became known as “psychobillyboogiewoogiejazz.” Loafer’s Glory gigs were more than club dates — they were events.

From those years, the album "Hotel Carolina" is the band’s only existing body of work. Now a collector’s item, it was initially released in 1977 on 8-track tape. The last surviving cartridge was digitally resurrected by original producer Mark Williams, and the resulting CD sparked an article in No Depression magazine and a reunion mini-tour in 2002.

Since disbanding in 1979, the Loafers have all remained active in music, from country to Cajun, rockabilly, old-time, roots-rock and rhythm ’n’ blues.
Sorry, Woody! I just need an image of the CD cover. Let me see if I can grab the one on your page. That will be the only album shown that began life as an 8-Track Tape cartridge! Thanks for reminding me.
