Influences
Loco Macheen members all come from extremely diffrent musical backgrounds with influences from They might be Giants, Dead Milkmen, Blues Travler, all of Petey's Jazz players, Alanis Morissette, Phish, Moe., The Dead,
Disco Biscuits, and all of the bands we play with influence us in their own ways as well. Also 16 Horsepower, Split Lip, Mike West, Steve Earle, Frank Zappa, Hank, Willie, Cash, Waylon, SCI,.......
If you lived in a tiny town in Kansas and didn't really have much else to do, and you and all your best friends were musicians, what would you do?
Write a bunch of songs? Learn a lot of instruments? Tour as much as possible? Yeeehaw!!!!!
Yes sir that is what we did!!
Formed in Emporia Kansas in 2002, Loco Macheen and The DeWayn Bros. are a Jeckyl and Hyde so to speak. The DeWayn Bros. use clever song arrangments and beautiful harmonies to create their Kansas bluegrass sound. Originality is also a huge factor in the DeWayn sound. Influences spanning from traditional pickers to rock, country and jazz. Never limiting what you can do with a traditional bluegrass line-up is a big part of being a DeWayn Brother. DeWayn recorded their newest album "Critter Creole" in New Orleans, LA just before the Hurricane hit with Mike West at the Ninth Ward Pickin Parlor. The third week of July in NOLA has got to be one of the hottest places to be. It was miserable hot and humid and the recording space had no AC and we went from 10am to 6pm everyday and by 2 in the afternoon it would be cooler outside than in the studio and it was at least 100 degrees outside!!!!
Now, Loco Macheen is the Hyde portion of the show! All the same members but whole new band, add a drummer, some guitars, an explosive harmonica player, a pounding rhythm section, the full keyboard set-up and a whole bunch of singing, and we will get started. On any set night you really don't know what you are going to get with Loco? Maybe some good Ol' honkey tonk country or......some punk OY! then the girl will rock your **** off then some Latin grooves and then Loco will preform it's second song and it will start with.....
OK Jan.1st will be the start of Loco and DeWayn vs. The World our first national tour. Between the two bands we are already doing 150 dates a year, with both bands playing most nights, with half the band working full time, but come January no more jobs!! That's right folks if you are a part of Loco Macheen LLC you get to quit your job forever, live in a bus, and travel to far and away places!!! (but not til Jan.1st 2006)
