The Kalamazoo band twitch came into existence around the end of 1990, out of the remains of the rarely-heard "Crowded Morgue". At the time, band members included Kevin Oberlin (vocals and guitar), Steve Martin (bass), Kevin Farkas (drums), and Rick Cutsinger (guitar). Within this line-up, they released the metal-with-some-clean-guitar cassette "Feel the Palm" and gained relative popularity around town, playing the club and parties. Within the next year or so, Chris Bryers joined the band as vocalist, leaving "Selling Heaven" and Rick Cutsinger left. Chris joked that he had won the "Honorary Sammy Hagar Ruin your Favorite Metal Band" award, but in fact, Twitch took quite a turn towards improvement. In 1993 they released the very popular EP CD "Homewrecker", and became fixtures in Kalamazoo and played the big festivally shows. Another demo was recorded at the Western Studios which was never released. They released the 7' of Jedi/Maryjane to a dwindling number of turntables. They were signed to Grass Records and recorded their first full length, "Beaten Senseless and Giddy With Love" (1993?). A video for "Locomotive God" was produced. They were also included on a Frank Sinatra tribute record. At the height of the Kalamazoo local scene, twitch was picked up by major record label R C A Records and recorded two albums worth of unreleased material (a demo and an album) with producer Dave Ogilvy. In 1995, they were dropped by the label and broke up shortly afterward. Members went on to start Owlsa, Sleet and Dead River Drag.

Were ready to get going so PLEASE stop by and say hello....
Loved Twitch. Fortunate enough to see 'em 3? times in WI (2 "Palm" era and once opening for Big Drill Car) A Golden day of my life was finding "Beaten..." at a record store in Madison, WI in 1995. I didn't even own a CD player at that time. Still pull the discs (and cassette) out often. Twitch with unsinged Thought Industry at the Bluejay Bowl in 1991/2? a show I will never forget. Thanks for the memories...
Kevin, I'd like to catch up. I actually have a question for you. In the meantime, please stop by and view some of my experimental anatomies and artificial life forms: http://www.myspace.com/holistic_neuroinformatics
Glad to see there is still a little something to be said about Twitch.
My MASH green Medicine Ball has so many holes in it it would be better suited in the garbage.
If there is a Twitch shrine somewhere, this shirt is clearly meant to be there.
Beaten Senseless and Giddy with Love is now available through itunes. Working on getting the rest up as well. Homewrecker, Medicine Ball (unleased RCA EP) and pretty much every demo we did. -Kevin
alas, twitch remains perhaps the grand stepping stone of kzoo history...the Medicine Ball EP was a wanting moment in a sad aftermath; still Homewrecker and Beaten Senseless are masterful hints at a wondrous era. Genius Hired Guns, Selling Heaven, Killswitch, Doxie...and now they say Chris Bryers' "Birds" CD-R is making rounds. Has everyone heard Sleet "Volume Drops"? Is Brent Oberlin still in Ann Arbor? may i kindly thank y'all for the add?
SO STOKED!!! Thanks so much for the tunes...we're getting ready to be on the road so you'll definatly be with us!!! Keep your eyes peeled for a package via snail mail :) XOXO
whats up. I'm a fan from the way back. Played with you guys in Augusta Ga. About 10 years ago (give or take), and I still rock "beaten" with authority. So when's the reunion? On the serious is there a place where I can get a new copy of beaten (Last song skips on mine), or anyother recordings I should know about? Peace
Thanks for the add...last time I saw you guys you played with Thought Industry for a record release party in Dec. back in mid 90's. That one of my best birthday presents ever.
thank you steve for sending me the unreleased tunes. they were a great joy to listen to. as i was listening to the songs, i though of the summer of 1995 which was the most enjoyable summer for me when i was in k-zoo considering it was the first actual summer i didn't go back to detroit and i began to write music on the guitar. the early music was also intriguing to listen to as well.
it is truly great to have discovered the twitch site on myspace.com. i have been enamored with this band since day one and still am to this day. beaten senseless is a great album to reflect upon the the times i spent in k-zoo. it is also great to realize that the music stands the test of time and is more vibrant now than then. i play some of my favorite songs from the cd (the fantastic zero, nero apologizes, quaker and especially glue), people say the songs are really good and ask, "who is this?" i am definitely fortunate to have seen the band's final show. hopefully, the unreleased music will surface. i sure would like to hear it. if any of the twitch guys or other k-zoo rockers are in the l.a./long beach area, look me up!
Nice to see that Twitch still has a place on the web. You should put up some songs on here for people to listen to. Is there anyway to score up a burnt copy or something of th
