• Bio

Loell Duinn (lo-el d^in), as such, was born in spring of 2002 as a result of various musical projects dating from 1995., taking many forms as the times were changing and events took their places. Founded by Alen Zarifović and Olja Frolo, Loell Duinn began to perform as a duo consisting in two vocals, classical and acoustic guitars. Soon enough we were hosting different musicians, excellent in their performance, but unprepared for this kind of musical journey. Journey through time and new experiences continues with joining of two new members: experienced and talented musicians and extraordinary persons Goran Brezac and Patrik Šćira with whom Loell Duinn becomes a full and stable project and performs at the world's biggest alternative music festival "Wave Gothik Treffen" (Leipzig, Germany, 2010.) Looking for acoustic nuances in the sound, the band welcomes a quality musician, flutist Ivona Kiršić and with this line up Loell Duinn performs at the biggest Eastern European alternative music festival "Dark bombastic Evening" (Alba Iulia, Romania, 2011.) and releases its first album "Retrospective 2003 -2008 " for OSA MEDIA (Labin, Istria, Croatia) and distributes it internationally by German distributor QUARTIER 23. The sound and the potential of the group is enriched with two new members: Marino Matošić and Saša Bošković with whom Loell Duinn becomes a "rich" septet and, as such, continues to perform at many concert venues like Europe's biggest Medieval-Fantasy Fest "CastleFest" (Lisse, Netherlands, 2012.). Until now we have composed some fusion of Arabic, Spanish, Balkan and local sounds using different languages, such as English, Croatian, Swedish, local dialects and invented languages. All our songs are composed as vocal-instrument parts that are tending to mellow, melancholic melodies connecting ethnic/folk elements with norms of classical music through historical vision of medieval, renaissance and baroque music in a modern performance. At this moment we've released our new album including 12 songs as a retrospective of our artistic work from 2003 to 2008. Label OSA MEDIA Labin, worldwide distribution by QUARTIER23 (http://www.quartier23.eu/) All of the songs are our copyright works, that is, legally registered songs with the HDS ZAMP ((Croatian Composers' Society) which is a professional service that deals with the exercise and protection of music copyrights on the basis of the approval of the State Intellectual Property Office and in line with the Copyright Act). ABOUT THE NAME To describe and to give meaning to this name we must, as a first step, point out for two things: 1. The name is an invented compound consisting of two words whose roots and etymological meaning will be mentioned later in the text. 2. The name was not originated to become a linguistic tangle but to describe the aspirations of us as individuals and to give significance to our artistic work. The word Loell (pronounced lóell) as such does not exist in any modern language. We've invented it as a symbol of all that is Divine in physical and spiritual world. To "forge it" we made use of the following terms: LAEL (old Testament name, masculine, with significance "of God" ("belonging to God")) (Num. 3:24) LAEL (Gaelic- old Welsh name, feminine meaning „little flower of God")
LUELL, LEWELLA (also a Gaelic compound, means „beautiful light") We make usage of the word Duinn (pronounced dˆinn) as a counterbalance for Loell representing the umbrageous side of the existence (being). It derives from Celtic mythology as: DONN (mythical figure in Irish literature and folklore, a God whose name means "darkness " is described as an aloof god, who does not like to keep company with any of the other deities. The deity Donn lives on an island called The House of Donn (Teach Duinn) the place where the souls of the dead assemble to take their journey to the other world) DUN, DUNN (adjective describing a "dingy brown", dark colour) DU, DDU (Welsh adjective for „black")
Conclusion: We use this name to describe the differentiation and the duality that surrounds us in all the methods and principles of life and living, and as such symbolizes and describes the beauty of a supreme being whose existence embodies the enchantment of beingness.
