About me:

Making the ascent to the Loft can be exhilarating experience as one counts the vertical rise of steps toward show time. Of course one should be in good physical or spiritual eagerness to make this ascent.

The abandoned decor. The unpainted walls, cracked plaster, and long wooden stairways can make you think, "What is this...'Relief comes. You're at the top of the stairs. As you push forward the spring tensioned door, entering into a narrow hallway, you're suddenly greeted by warm dedicated members as they welcome you in, accepting all donations.

Yes, it's the Loft Society. Never heard of it? But the name has come across your thoughts before. Why or how? Anyway. You're here at the Loft. Underground, exotic, unique. All of these words describe the scene, the happening.

The Loft Society is commissioned to the preservation of jazz music for the people. Everyone is welcome. The atmosphere is a melting pot of die hard jazz fans, a rainbow coalition of artists, writers, poets, musicians, graphic and photographic artists, radio and television hosts, impresarios, entrepreneurs, and too many other good people to mention.. You'll feel comfortable while enjoying the environment of artistic experience. We look forward to seeing you here.

The Loft Society's main mission is to operate a performance space to showcase creative musicians and to bring creative musicians to the area, providing an opportunity for them to perform. Our main interest is to preserve the American Art Form "JAZZ" and present it live to the community in an unique venue. The Loft hosts plays, dance or anything unusual on the performance art scene.

Performance at the Loft Society is very significant at this time in our society because many of our finest musicians will die unknown to us and our children due to the mainstream media's failure to recognize them. This music is uplifting in every way and many of us do not realize its beauty get exposure to the practitioners of the truly American Art Form JAZZ. The passing of greats like Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Elvin Jones, Sarah Vaughn, Betty Carter and many more reminds us that their influence on modern music cannot be denied.

The Loft offers an alternative atmosphere to other jazz venues. Musicians and artists can perform in a sensitive acoustic setting. The Loft is not a bar, club or anything similarly associated with a traditional club setting. We are unique to the tri-state area and performances are like no other. The atmosphere offered to audiences is safe, educating.

The Loft Society's other mission is to educate and expose children to live music and fresh performance art. They will see the inter-workings of instruments as well as experience the music. Their fertile minds are in our hands.

Who I'd like to meet:

anyone who is interested in the preservation of jazz music
