You get all excited inside and feel like this music needs to be heard! So you start to research everything you can about the artist, and you share the tracks with your friends and network. That’s the reaction music lovers experience after hearing Logiq’s work.
Background
Born Didier Dorelien, Logiq is an emcee/producer who has a lot to offer to the music industry. His approach and focus is to work hard and ensure to always release great music. Logiq excels in the creative and technical aspects of creating music. Born and raised in Haiti, Logiq grew up listening to Kompa, Reggae, Latin music, R&B, Soca and Hip-Hop. After leaving Haiti at 16 years old, his journey took him to South Florida (Fort-Lauderdale, Miami) where he started writing and producing while working towards a University degree in biology (pre-medicine). He was part of multiple hip-hop groups and collaborative projects for the next 4 years while learning and developing new skills. He then left the states and after making a stop in Montréal to further pursue his education in molecular biology and genetics, Logiq eventually came to Toronto in summer of 2006 and started making his music career a priority. He put the science world on hold and got fully immersed into music. He decided to add another degree under his belt and graduated from Trebas Institute with a diploma in audio engineering, production and DJ arts in the fall of 2008.
Style / influence
Logiq’s style is a mixture of Hip - Hop, Soul and Reggae. His greatest strength resides in songwriting, delivery (the flow) and performance. He sees songwriting as a delicate process that requires a unique precision approach with every track. His style has been described as lyrical, soulful, deep, melodic and conscious, with a lot of tongue twisters, double entendres and catchy metaphors. Logiq is also known as the “hook king” for his effortless ability to create catchy hooks. Aside from being a songwriter / artist, Logiq is also a well established producer, entrepreneur and audio engineer. As the founder and CEO of OOMG MUSIC INC (label, publishing and production), Logiq is currently concentrating solely on his career before signing any new talent. As a certified audio engineer, Logiq records, edits and mixes all his tracks in house. He is sometimes referred to as a 360o artist since he is self-sustaining, multi-talented and a true “Do It Yourself” franchise.
His influences include artist such as Jay-Z, Nas, Wyclef, Lupe Fiasco, Method Man, Cannibus, Biggie, Pac, Big L, ect… Logiq is also a huge R&B and Dancehall fan. He sometimes refers to his musical creations as hybrids of different genres and style with an emphasis on the lyrics. Even when creating club tracks, Logiq doesn’t sacrifice the integrity of his lyrics in order to be accepted! In other words, he doesn’t “dumb down” his lyrics. He always remains focused on making every track a classic! Thanks to a strong professional experience in sales and marketing, music business classes in school, and small business seminars, Logiq was able to acquire the type of knowledge needed to run a successful business. For now, Logiq feels very comfortable negotiating his contracts, managing his career and marketing his songs. Nevertheless, as his career expands, he will eventually team up with the right manager and transfer those responsibilities in order to focus on other things.
Logiq is currently working with different artists, producers and recording studios around Toronto and Miami. His undying love for music sets him apart from the rest. He is currently finishing up his second mixtape release, working on his debut album while getting ready for a summer packed with performances.
