   elly's Blurbs
About me:

Having had the great misfortune of growing up in the cultural backwaters of High Wycombe and Hull, I finally fell on my feet in the joyful hub that is Bristol. College brought me here and I've stayed ever since.

So, I have fun here hanging out with friends, drinking the local cider and getting up to all sorts of shenanigans. Well, that may be a bit of an embellishment. I am pretty tame these days! It's all about the wild nights in with the Scrabble board...

I have dabbled in a bit of club promotion, along with my super boyfriend Mr Benn, presenting a (now somewhat sporadic) night called Square One. Focusing on heavyweight dancefloor sounds, we cover all bases - from hip hop to reggae to disco to funk and all points in between. Past guests include Afrika Bambaataa, The Unabombers, Soul Jazz Soundsystem, Mark Rae, Trojan Soundsystem, Luke Vibert, The Nextmen, Dub Cartel Soundsystem, Fat City Recordings, JSTAR, Blood & Fire Soundsystem, Heatwave and DJ Derek - supported by the cream of Bristol's DJs. Click here to check out our website.

Benn and I programmed Club WOMAD at the festival in 2006 and 2007 - which was a nice little project to get our teef into. We had great fun booking some wicked global sounds - JSTAR and MC Honey Brown; Heatwave with Quality Diamond and Yungun; Trojan Sound System with Brother Culture, Chuckie Banton, SuperFour and Top Cat; Mr Bongo DJs; Marcelo D2; DJ Patife with Cleveland Watkiss; Bonobo; Coldcut; Norman Jay; Russ Jones; Balkan Beat Box; DJ Shantel; Miles Cleret; Frédéric Galliano and Kuduro Sound System; Afrodisiac Sound System; Andy Smith; Hocus Pocus and Steinski.

Over the past three and a half years I have been working for the WOMAD festival doing press/promotion/pr/marketing/programming shizzle. Click here to check out the WOMAD website.

I am now looking for new contracts in the industry and would be really keen to hear of any openings. Please do get in touch with any ideas...

Who I'd like to meet:

'Nice' folk, lost friends of yesteryear, and characters with music in their mind, a groove in their heart, fire in their belly and a skip in their jump... make yourselves known!

Without meaning to be rude, please read my profile before asking to be my friend... Do we actually have anything in common? Can you imagine us growing old together and still feeling the love?!

Note to Indie bands in particular: check out my music list - does it look like Indie is my thing? No, it's not and that's not likely to change I'm afraid.

Also, I don't want to be an Avon lady. Thanks.

I think so - I have to babysit Sue & Clive's satanic children (my non-religious god-children) Friday night - they are staying over at ours while Sue & Clive get battered at a party - but Luke is staying in so once theyve gone to bed I can hopefully escape!

Bring on the meat! I went to Culinaria last night and had sweetbreads - they were nice - like slippery dumplings...

Have a great holiday hon (bah humbug, I am not jealous at all). I am afraid I will not be attending said gig on the poster you pasted all over my comments on my page out of principle.

Only joking. I am infact busy on that date throwing pigs around on behalf of the country of Greenland somewhere in Surrey. Its all true.

Best quote:
"I would definitely advise trying the kolonkothekeftethes"

...if you can pronounce it. It sounds like a joke dish made up by locals to embarrass the English...
