Loits, having started out with rather straightforward pagan black metal back in 1996 and still staying true to their roots, have managed to carve out a totally fresh and quite original heavy music genre of distinctly melancholic atmosphere. Their innovativeness has brought along more and more frequent comparisons to Enslaved. “Must album” may not be a step forward on the trail of Loits, but it is most certainly neither a comedown nor a standstill. Rather, it’s a journey of discovery on paths parallel and thus far unexplored.
So far, the activities of Loits have met with success. Their previous album, “Vere kutse kohustab”, managed in a couple of months to become a thus-far-undethroned bestseller for their record label of the time, Ledo Takas Records. “Ei kahetse midagi”, their debut, has been released by eight different companies in many countries all over the world; most of the pressings have by now been sold out.
Loits are justifiably considered a strong live act. It is indeed at the concerts that their veritable energy is released in its purest form.

Nearly three years have passed since the release of “Vere kutse kohustab”, but Loits have not left their guns rusting in the ditch. On Estonian Flag Day, June 4th, the long-awaited “Must album” (“Black album”), encompassing nine songs of unheard-of brilliance. The record is not unlike a picture album left behind by the grand-grandparents, documenting not only photographs, but also all the joy expereiced, as well as the tragedy of one small nation. “Must album” does not glorify the love for the fatherland or the soldier’s valour, not the beauty of life or the pain of grief, although the latter one acts like the cord that twines the songs together. The new Loits album is a gift of remembrance to those departed, serving also as a reminderto all that injustice never dies.
The limited edition of “Must album” is a true bag of surprises to all friends of Loits. In addition the actual album, the neat cardboard package contains a cool sticker as well as six commemoratory cards. The main thing, though, is the bonus EP “Mustad laulud” (“Black songs”), containing four tunes that are of somewhat different cast, yet entirely delicious nevertheless. And as if this was not enough, it also includes a photo album, a newsreel movie about the “Must album” record and a “Monologue” balancing the overall tonality of the album, all launchable on a PC. Together with Loits you are strong!

Unlike the most of the WWII based Black Metal bands, Loits managed to recreate perfectly the historical context, their whole music seems to smell like gunpowder, you can almost feel the bombers over Tallinn, and the closing hidden track seems to have be sung from the depths of a cold and wet trench, by a bunch of tired soldiers accompanied only by an old accordion during a brief moment of calm… "Vere Kutse Kohustab" is an absolutely recommendable album, a work full of history, pride and power…
