Once upon a time, there was an
old little church organ that was left alone in an ancient
village chapel in Lichtenberg in Berlin… she had been
abused in Sunday mass for several decades, and her
graceful sounds would be accompanying the dreadful dirges
of untalented and geriatric people. One night, two
vagabonds came by, kidnapped her, and named her “Lola”.
Since then, the crazy trio is travelling the world,
playing music under the moniker of “Lola Angst” … and on
the run from church and State. Now, they are relentlessly
pursuing their goal of total musical world
domination.
Dramatis Personae:
Alexandar Goldmann: being a classically trained
church organist, he was playing the holy mass in a small
village church in Croatia from early childhood onwards…
until one fateful Sunday in autumn when the vicar kicked
the adolescent musician from the church after young
Alexandar had been happily spicing up the holy songs with
some devilish improvisations. Since that day, he has been
spending his life with one foot on the world’s concert
stages, one foot in jail, and one foot in the
grave.
Reiner Schirner is a guy that is virtually married
to his analog synthesizers. Addicted to the art of
creating new and exciting sounds, he has been spending
most of the time of his past years twiddling the knobs of
cult gadgets, such as the Mini Moog or the Linn Drums. In
“Lola Angst”, he definitely feels at home…
The Show:
LOLA ANGST is a monster, clocking in at 300 kg, with 36
pipes that can shoot flames up to 8m high. She is the
central element of the show. Goldmann screams and sings
and plays her with both hands and feet, triggering
synthesizers that Schirner manipulates and tweaks live. At
club shows, the dream team is accompanied by two beautiful
ballerinas, Nastja Yakymenko and Cristina Voce from the
German National Ballet. The stage act of Lola Angst is
just as nonconformist and crazy as the two main
protagonists… collective madness and instant conversion to
the Church of Lola are side effects that have been
witnessed at the group’s concerts on a regular basis.
The Mission:
LOLA ANGST is musical rebellion. After producing an ode to
Hedonism with “The Council of Love”, the two missionaries
of madness, Goldmann and Schirner, are travelling right
into the demonic heart of German conservatism: to Southern
Germany. The Black Forest is the adequate setting for the
final, apocalyptic battle between domesticated pigs and
wild boars, who have allied themselves with our
heroes.
LOLA ANGST have long cancelled their rental flats and are
now travelling 200 days a year as musical nomads in old
buses that once belonged to the German army and have now
been refurbished to become travelling clubs. Their
bus-parties, which take place at secret locations and are
scheduled relatively spontaneously, have gained an
international reputation of being eccentric cult
happenings. As the location, date and time are only spread
by mouth-to-mouth propaganda and the group’s Myspace
profile, these events breathe the exquisite air of
exclusivity. The duo’s mobile lifestyle has some other big
advantages as well: they can let different places inspire
them, travel the world converting new disciples to the
Church of Lola, and always be a few steps ahead of the
authorities, if the situation should afford it. The whole
crazy jamboree surrounding LOLA and her travels is being
filmed by a professional crew and will be made into a Road
Movie.
LOLA ANGST is not your average band… on an idealistic
crusade for nonconformity and healing madness, it will
only be a matter of time until you become a disciple as
well…
