Lola is, lastly, a silent movie star. Her sideline in movies is making waves internationally with the debut of her short The Poor Slob and The Good Fairy at Cannes International Film Festival Short Film Corner 2007
In a dazzling array of the very brightest of burlesque performers, Lola The Vamp's star shines bright. Australia's premier burlesque perforer, Tease-o-rama headliner (the only Australian to headline the world's biggest burlesque event), Penthouse Pet, tabloid scandal, Lola The Vamp is one of burlesque's immortal and timeless goddesses.
A celebrity of the burlesque world, she has supported Nick Cave, posed as an Australian Penthouse Pet in a notorious and very very popular shoot, described by Mr Cave himself as 'beautiful'. Since her acclaimed first performance for Dita Von Teese, Catherine D'Lish and Kitty West aka Evangeline the Oyster Girl, Lola has performed everywhere from major music festivals such as The Big Day Out to the Assembly Ballroom at the Edinburgh Fringe, to theatres in Las Vegas and Hollywood, and her beloved Paris. Headlining appearances at major burlesque events have seen her quoted in papers from the Sydney Morning Herald to the San Francisco Chronicle. She has been reviewed by The Times and The Scotsman, fasterlouder.com, and many more, with Melbourne's Age topping them all with their 2008 review "a sly wit and a highly developed aesthetic...super sexy without ever being tawdry, Lola is in a league of her own"
Lola also features prominently in the two most seminal books on contemporary burlesque "Burlesque and The New Bump and Grind" by Michelle Baldwin and "The Happy Stripper: Pleasures and Politics of the New Burlesque" by Jackie Wilson
Lola's elegant and sensual style borrows from La Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau, with a tantillising touch of 1920s striptease. She takes her name from the vampy silent film stars of the 1920s, and nods to her favorite passtime of improvising to jazz music - to vamp in jazz is to improvise after all! Lola not only offers audiences her stunning cabaret shows with the most exquisite props and costumes you'll ever see, but two full-length solo shows - Milonga Del Angel and Bohemia, both of which have toured to sold-out audiences worldwide. In 2007, her silent film, The Poor Slob and The Good Fairy, based on an 1899 cabaret script, debuted at the Cannes Short Film Corner
A fast-rising world superstar, this is Lola Bijou La Vamp - a jewel and a vamp!
Hello!!! It's been awhile - sorry there hasn't been in any Australian shows for many months but we've been busy in Europe with a bunch of touring and we're now recording our new album in Berlin (scheduled for release in March). But to make up for it, here's a big (and silly) Merry Christmas from us (and from some hippos too) :
Some bold new artistic direction? Nah, Just us being silly!!! We did this track for our label's "Black Snow - the completely different Xmas compilation". (and of course, visit our youtube channel for a high quality version)
Wishing you a very silly Silly Season and we'll see you back in Australia sometime in 2010!
My girlfriend and i were able to attend your show during the under the blue moon festival and we were both impressed with your performance. it was beautiful and elegant. thank you for sharing your talent with all of us and for helping to keep Burlesque alive in this day and age
