Project Lomo #2 provides an insight into eighteen different artists and photographers exploration of 'Lomography'.
Originally developed from a Japanese mini-camera by the Russian General Igor Petrowitsch Kornitzky in 1982, the first Lomo camera possessed disarmingly innovative photographic qualities such as extremely high light sensitivity and a robust plastic casing.
Further on in 1991, two Viennese students discovered the "peculiar" looking camera in a Prague junk-store, and were excited by the results of saturated colours and strange image quality. By Spring 1992 they had written the "Lomographic Manifesto" and the "Ten Golden Rules of Lomography" and had declared themselves "Lomographers".
After steadily becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon, additional Lomo cameras with alternating functions were created. Five of these cameras have been used by participants of Project Lomo #2, these being the 'Holga', the 'Oktomat', the Action Sampler' and the 'Super Sampler' along with the original 'Lomo LC-A+'.
The people in this show, whether they identify as Lomographers or photographers, each display the boundless energy, vibrant imagery and photographic curiosity which is the essence of Lomography.
