London Cemeteries - Hugh Mellor
London Cemeteries - Darren Beach
Necropolis - London and its dead - Catharine Arnold..
London Necropolis - A Guide to Brookwood Cemetery - John M.Clarke
I've been photographing cemeteries on and off for years now and it's all because of this girl; e.Katie Holm. I have much to thank her for.
My photographs of Kensal Green Cemetery have been exhibited at the Dissenters' Gallery at the cemetery. My hope is that I can photograph every London cemetery before we move away from London!
I'm also a founding member of the Friends of Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery. This association is VERY much in its infancy.
At the moment I'm including photographs from other cemeteries (outside of London) on my website. However The World's Necropolis is under construction to record my visits to these other cemeteries. I have many loves and passions: photography; cemeteries; victorian attitude to death; victoriana; faery lore; shakespeare; comics; oh god I hate listing these things and for some reason Myspace keeps turning everything into links anyway ... so just accept that I have very varied tastes that don't always make sense to a lot of people ... PLEASE NOTE: London Necropolis is ©Polly Yuill 2006 - 2008. All written material, photographs, and images (unless previously public domain), are copyright protected and may not be used, reprinted, retransmitted, or altered in whole or in part without express written permission.
If you wish to use my photos for social networking sites etc. it would be LOVELY if you could donate £2.50 towards my hosting

If you would like to know a bit more about the cemeteries I photograph, most of the Magnificent Seven have their own websites, usually run by 'Friends of ...' charitable organisations.Friends of West Norwood Cemetery
Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery
National Federation of Cemetery Friends
Friends of Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery ________________________________________________________ Friend requests - please don't send me one just because you want to up the amount on your page. Only add me if you're interested in cemeteries, cemetery photography, occult, pagan, goth, victoriana etc. I'd love it if you mailed me too ... you know ... just to say 'hi' and perhaps why you'd like to add me as a friend. If I don't like your music I won't add you - just so you know! I've just got another Myspace here where I add musicians, dancers, models etc. especially those interested in working with me. So ... there you go ... :)

“In the depths of every heart, there is a tomb and a dungeon, though the lights, the music, and revelry above may cause us to forget their existence, and the buried ones, or prisoners whom they hide. But sometimes, and oftenest at midnight, those dark receptacles are flung wide open. In an hour like this, when the mind has a passive sensibility, but no active strength; when the imagination is a mirror, imparting vividness to all ideas, without the power of selecting or controlling them; then pray that your grieves may slumber, and the brotherhood of remorse not break their chain.”
~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

“Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door
Only this, and nothing more."
“Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore
Nameless here for evermore. “
~Edgar Allen Poe

"MICANOPY MOURNING"
“Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life.”
~ John Lubbock
“The higher the sun ariseth, the less shadow doth he cast; even so the greater is the goodness, the less doth it covet
praise; yet cannot avoid its rewards in honours.”
~Akhenaton quotes (King of Egypt, 14th century BC)
“See how nature - trees, flowers, grass - grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...we need silence to be able to touch souls.”
~Mother Teresa of Calcutta

A cupcake or fairy cake is a small cake designed to serve one person, usually made in a small paper cup container. As with larger cakes, frosting and other cake decorations, such as sprinkles, are defining characteristics of modern cupcakes. A simple cupcake uses the same ingredients as most other standard cakes - incorporating butter, sugar, eggs, and flour. The name "cup" cakes or "measure" cakes is believed to have developed because of the use of the practice of measuring the ingredients using a standard-sized cup instead of the previous practice of weighing the ingredients. It is also possible that cupcakes came into being simply as smaller versions of the Victoria sponge cake, as the mixture required is exactly the same.
