Their fierce and inspiring original songs draw their influences from seventies R&B and Funk, and are able to lift the spirits of any audience. The power of music has joined the creative zeal of these three ladies for an expressive look at life through lyric and melody.
These ladies are an amazingly tight and sweet unit. Shani leads from the rear, riding and maintaining a tight, strong groove. Originally from Los Angeles, she has been playing music her entire life. Starting out on clarinet at age seven, shes played a variety of instruments before finding her calling on the drums. Most influenced by old school R&B, and the legendary artist Prince, Shani produces a powerful foundation, which allows London Street to build upon with ease.
When it comes to the bass, Jenn Curiel has a style all her own. Smooth and rhythmic, she never skips a beat. Growing up in Los Angeles, she studied the baritone horn for several years before deciding to switch to the bass guitar. Her musical roots stem from bass legend Verdeen White and his groundbreaking group Earth, Wind and Fire. Similar to Verdeen, Jenn designs unique and distinctive bass lines that compliment the melody.
Lesley Grant brings sweet and sultry vocals to this great ensemble. Growing up in Georgia, she was raised on the blues and gospel music. Singing in her church choir from age 7, her voice developed amongst a family and community of singers. She learned how the power of harmony, and the strength of melody can charm a listener. Her influences are imbedded in soul music, and range from the late, great Donny Hathaway to Ani DiFranco.
Forming in San Francisco six years ago, London Street has already enjoyed many successes. They have performed in such highly esteemed venues as the Fillmore Lounge in the Fillmore Auditorium, Great American Music Hall, Slims, The Elbo Room, Rasselas Jazz Club, and many others. In addition, they have captivated large crowds at great festivals like The Haight Street Fair and Bay To Breakers. They have toured internationally with renowned acts such as Kofy Brown, india.arie, Angie Stone, Eric Sardinas and Jethro Tull's Ian Andersen. Locally, they've played with great acts such as The Roots, Macy Gray, The Brand New Heavies, Ozomatli, Music Soulchild, Erykah Badu, ALO, John Legend, Beth Waters, King Street, and Los Mocosos.
The girls also keep busy by supplying the rhythm section to local acts like Four Year Bender, Guitarmaggedon, Sean Leahys Neckbone and Trevor Garrods solo project. Most recently they performed with Guitarmaggedon, including Sean Leahy and members of Tea Leaf Green and ALO, at The Independent.
London Street is building a reputation based on a solid, energetic, and heartfelt live performance. Their fierce and inspiring original songs draw their influences from seventies R&B and Funk, and are able to lift the spirits of any audience. The power of music has joined the creative zeal of these three ladies for an expressive look at life through lyric and melody.
