Tupac Retrospective 的自我介紹 |
關於我:
This page was created to promote interest in the Tupac Retrospective which ran over 13 days in September 2006 at the National Film Theatre in London.
September 13th marked the 10th anniversary of the death of Tupac Shakur and the Retrospective explored the impact his work and reputation continued to make on modern music, mainstream culture and media during that period.
Tupac Amaru Shakur was examined musically, cinematically and culturally.
The idea to hold this Tupac Retrospective in London came from British print and broadcast journalist, writer, lecturer and black music specialist Jacqueline Springer. Jacqueline is creator of the course Contemporary Black Music Culture and lectured at the Retrospective on the phenomenal rise of the rapper actor. Also on offer:
WHAT YOU MISSED:
A Q&A session with Leila Steinberg (The Rose That Grew From Concrete), Tupac's first manager who discussed Tupac's relationship with literature and its impact on his lyricism.
Tupac: The First Icon of Hip Hop debate featuring Leila Steinberg and Lillian Gish Award winning documentary film maker/producer Karolyn Ali who not only worked on Tupac's 'Do For Love' music promo, but also produced the Academy Award nominated Tupac Resurrection!
Jacqueline Springer's Contemporary Black Music Culture illustrated dvd presentation of 'The Rise of The Rapper/Actor' which explored the ascent of rappers in the acting arena and identified the five emcees who have been nominated for Academy Awards.
All Eyez On Me an auidence and invited panel discussion chaired by Jacqueline Springer who explored the influence of Tupac's image, music and socio-political music in the decade since his death. Leila Steinberg, Anthony Thornton published author and writer for The NME and Urb magazine and Miles Marshall Lewis, former editor of Vibe magazine and contributor to The Source and XXL explored the responsibility of 1990s music media from the coverage afforded to Tupac towards the end of his life, when he regularly discussed the inevitability of his death, to how Tupac was assessed in print following his murder.
The Ghetto Gospel: Tupac's Politics debate which looked at the legacy of socio-political activism the son of Black Panther was born into, how and where that was interwoven is his work.
You also missed big screen showings of Juice, Thug Angel, Gridlock'd, Biggie & Tupac, Tupac Resurrection and the preview screening of Asher D's Life n Lyrics.
