A few of the folks we've had the pleasure of sharing a stage with...
American Music Club, Constantines, Deadstring Brothers, The Hold Steady, Jess Klein, Gary Louris (of The Jayhawks), Ian McLagan (of The Faces), Mark Olson (of The Jayhawks) and The Creekdippers, Murder By Death, Ox, Patty Hurst Shifter, John Prine, The Radar Bros, The Redlands Palomino Co, Richmond Fontaine, The Silent League (ex Mercury Rev), Swearing At Motorists
Veering from harmony drenched, acoustic led tales of hope and heartbreak to all out swinging rock at the drop of a chord, Lone Pine are a Cardiff based 5-piece taking the best bits of the booming americana and nu-folk scenes and dashing them liberally across a sound steeped in the traditions of classic rock.
Lone Pine are currently recording tracks for their debut full-length with producer Charlie Francis (REM, Robyn Hitchcock, Minus 5 and Wilco). With a host of guests queuing up to appear, Victoria Williams (who has worked with Lou Reed, Neil Young etc) has already put down vocals on two songs being considered.
Since their inception Lone Pine have traveled the width and breadth of the UK, playing two Green Man Festivals (alongside Bonnie Prince Billy, James Yorkston etc) and short tours with a host of Uncut and broadsheet favourites including American Music Club, Richmond Fontaine, The Radar Bros, The Deadstring Brothers and Jayhawks co-founder Mark Olson, to name a few.
A 6-track EP was self released on their own label 'Sweet Life Records' in February 2006. Titled " The Lock Up Sessions Vol.1 " and clocking in at 32 minutes, this was an accomplished but edgy record, recorded 100% live to 8-track by the band themselves...the kind Paul Westerberg or Steve Earle would make if they too had just £40 for 10 hours in a lock-up on a Newport industrial estate. Whisperin’ and Hollerin’ called it "defiantly glorious roots flavoured rock ‘n’ roll" and gave it 8/10. Not bad for a record without a single overdub!
A few cool things folks have said about us...
"defiantly glorious roots-flavoured rock & roll" - Tim Peacock, Whisperin' and Hollerin'
"that resonant, Levon Helmish voice goes down like a cool swig of Southern Comfort" - Charley Dunlap, Bath Chronicle
"raised somewhere in the dustbowl on a diet of coyotes, bourbon and heartbreak" - Andrzej Lukowski, Metro Newspaper (Gig of the week)
"Lone Pine could be from Chicago, their ‘Workingmans Palace’ wouldn’t be out of place on the Bloodshot roster" David Cowling, Americana UK (Jon Langford tribute album review)
