About Lonesome Rhodes & the Good Company

Lonesome Rhodes is Brian Pake, who also plays in Seattle based bands Spook the Horse and With Friends Like These. The Good Company consists of a slew of musicians including...Matt Shaw, Michael Vermillion and Justin Cronk of Vendetta Red, Kyle Logghe of Verona, members of Spook the Horse and more. This project, from the start has been based on Pake's ambition to include and collaborate with as many friends and musicians as possible.

The Project started in the summer of 2006. Pake was recording some demos when Cronk offered to engineer an entire record. They went to work for the next four months recording the record in their rehearsal space, finding creative ways to capture sounds with minimal recording equipment. The band started playing shows the beginning of 2007 and the record was released in October.

SEATTLE SOUND MAGAZINE (4/4 STARS) * The debut from Seattle-via-Bellingham country crooner Lonesome Rhodes and his vast collective of whiz kid musicians aims high - harmony-filled, Neil Young-inspired folk, drenched in piano and electric guitar. For the most part, Rhodes (aka Brian Pake of local indie rock bastion Spook the Horse) and company deliver, especially with languid ballads like "Effort" and harsher, grittier tunes like "Sidetracked" and "Frame of Mind." Rhodes is at his best when he's at his darkest - and his lowest (a few of those high notes are almost cringe-inducing). His stark, melancholy whispering on the aforementioned "Frame of Mind" and dusty, Rocky Votolato-sounding rasp on the title track are stirring, but it's "This Old Soul" that really stuns - a haunting, instrumental ballad led by a desolate piano melody.
-KATIE SAURO

THE STRANGER (BAND OF THE WEEK 02.07.08) * Maybe you saw the feature in last weeks paper? The one about a little local band called Fleet Foxes? Well, they're just one band flying the folk banner in Seattle's music community - Lonesome Rhodes & the Good Company also find inspiration in artists like Van Morrison and the Band. Led by Brian Pake of Spook the Horse, this new country outfit features a rotating roster of local notables like Matthew Shaw, Michael Vermillion, Justin Cronk, and Kyle Logghe playing a small orchestra of guitars, percussion, piano, and organ. Their next show is February 26th at the Triple Door.
- MEGAN SELING

BEST RECORDS OF 2007 (KEXP 90.3) * Kyle Johnson included "Nothing To Write Home About." in his top 10 favorite records of the year. KEXP Best of 2007

GREAT JOB on 107.7 Tonight. Of course, you didn't dedicate anything to me, though, having worked in radio years ago, I am fully aware of the time restrictions placed on live acts. Just so you know, next time I would appreciate an under the breath "This one's for Dave" dedication.

AWESOME JOB tonite...ever Payton and Bennett were tuned in!!!! So proud!

Have a great on-air show tonight!
