What I should say? Language cannot describe music anymore than it can describe the taste of food. I am an improvising musician that works in noise, minimalist textures, and jazz/funk-based interplay. My current approach utilizes extended techniques, loops, effects and preparations as ways to extend the vocabulary of the bass. Also I have begun experimenting with text and vocals as live sounds and as recorded cassette tapes. This follows my love of languages and words/sounds which had remained separate from my music until now.
I describe my solo project as "painting with bass", to borrow a concept from David Torn. The music here is in solo, duo and trio settings. I released my first solo bass recording entitled "Without Hidden Noise" in June 2009.
VECTOR TRIO We are trumpet, bass and drums playing original electronic urban grooves soundscapes. We like to blur the line between composition and improv and sound and noise using loops and effects. Our third CD, Paths Unknown, was released in September 2006 at the Festival of New Trumpet (FONT) in NYC. Our fourth CD, Nomina, was recorded in May 2008 and is now available at CdBaby.com. The trio allows me more than enough room to stretch out and to play more than just the bass function.
ALEASTHETE Aleasthete is an electro-accoustic trio which includes Jason Mullinax aka Pilesar (toys, percussion, electronics) and Jason Tremblay (feedback, modulation, oscillation, delay) and myself on NS bass cello that explores texture and denisity within a linear continuum. I've posted a track from our first EP recorded in Jan 2008 and an improv from Nov 2008.
NINE STRINGS Nine Strings is a duo project with Daniel Barbiero on double bass and myself on NS bass cello. Our first gig as a duo was in June 2008 at Artomatic here in Washington DC. Our first CD "A Part of Wholes" was released in Dec 2008 and followed up by a live recording "Open Circuits/Communicating Fields" released in May 2009. See our new myspace page above for details.
DANCE PERFORMANCE GROUP DPG is directed and choreographed by Nancy Havlik. We have performed at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington DC (July 2008) and in NYC (Sept 2008) and the Electric Possible here in DC (Nov 2008). I provide both music and movement, blurring the line between musician and dancer. The seven of us work with improvisation and structure. See above for performance times.
NINE STRINGS + PILESAR
A trio. Double bass (Dan) and NS bass cello (Gary) are amplified and fed into effects and live loops (Jason). The three voices are then twisted via post-production by Pilesar and spit out on a limited edition EP. I've posted a song above.

Mi piace offuscare la linea tra composizione e improvvisazione, tra suono e rumore. Quando sono andato a un concerto di King Crimson in 1974 fu una folgorazione. Alcuni dei mei sogni sono andare alla festival Rassegna di Nuova Musica a Macerata, verdere un derby allo stadio di San Siro e mangiare tortellini in brodo a Bologna.

Jag vet inte varför jag gillar svenska men jag gillar vintern. :-) Jag spelar en Steinberger NS bass cello pa bilen. Jag redan pratar spanska och italienska. Nu spelar ni och tänker på Salvador Dali.
