Die österreichische Kleinstadt Hollabrunn, ein Mekka des Hardcores? Na,
das ist dann doch ein bisschen zu hoch gegriffen. Fakt ist, das Ende der
90er einige lokale Hardcore-Bands in der niederösterreichischen Provinz
entstanden, die um das Label Masturbation Records teilweise bis heute noch
aktiv sind. Eine davon ist LOONY BRAIN, sozusagen das Herzstück des
Labels, das nach mehrjähriger Abstinenz ihre zweite Platte "Red"
veröffentlicht hat. Im Vordergrund steht der klare und standfeste Gesang
von Babs, die durch ihre klare und ausgebildete Stimme echt eine
Ausnahmeerscheinung ist und mich streckenweise an Carol La Rock von
SHE-MALE TROUBLE erinnert. Instrumentell halten sich die restlichen vier
im Hintergrund und arbeiten vor allem an der rythmischen Unterfütterung,
was ich als die ideale Ergänzung zur dominanten Stimme sehe. Besonders
gelungen ist "The story never ends", bei dem Bassist Stevie sich auch
stimmlich an der ganzen Sache beteiligt.

LOONY BRAIN is around now since 1996. The band raised out of a really creative melting pot around Hollabrunn (Austria), where several bands in the local punk and hardcore scene were formed. The musical style of the female fronted band changed during the 12 years of songwriting and playing live.
In their early years LOONY BRAIN started out as a fast, melodic skate-punk band. During the years the band mixed up their music with different styles like ska-tunes as well as hardcore-parts which made it hard to categorize them. But one thing is for sure: There will always be punkrock in their hearts, as it..s where they came from and still get most influences from.
LOONY BRAIN accomplished to play 3 international tours which led them to Austria, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands and entered the stage for more than 100 club gigs and festivals. LOONY BRAIN had the great opportunity to make friends and share the stage with bands from all over the world like Skin Of Tears (ger), The Argies (arg), The Rudebones (jap), Der Dicke Polizist (ger), Die Mimmis (ger), Distemper (rus), The Mass (uk), Waterdown (ger), The Cornflames (bel), Sixtoys (bel), Red Lights Flash (aut), J*A*N feat. LOONY BRAIN released a demo tape, a live (split-)album, songs for three compilations and two full length albums.
For LOONY BRAIN it has always been important to be critical, socially and politically commited, as well as having fun and playing live to a happy, sweaty, dancing crowd is the driving aspect for the band.
