About me:
Loop Apparel Brings Feeling to Chicago Fashion Scene
Being fired as manager of a band can make a man feel awful, as though a girl had just dumped him. When a girl actually does dump him two weeks later, a fair amount of sulking and self-pity might understandably follow.
Finding himself in that exact predicament, however, Josh Galecki decided to take a different path. Having always possessed an interest in clothing, and sensing an absence in the local market of clothes that truly expressed the feelings and emotions he observed as a twenty-something living in Chicago, Galecki decided to pursue his own line of apparel to fill the void.
“I was sick of seeing meaningless, random designs on shirts,” said Galecki. “I wanted a product that expressed a feeling — themes like love, hate, betrayal, yearning — the things I saw myself and those around me going through every day.”
With the vision for his company in place, Galecki now needed artistic talent and technical know-how to realize his ideas. Galecki tapped artist Adam Richardson and graphic designer Jared Stahl to complete the team, and Loop Apparel was born.
As they filled up a few ashtrays over a couple of pints, the three discussed concepts for their newly formed venture. Typically ideas came from Galecki, inspired by the images and emotions he had recently encountered. Richardson sketched the concepts into a more tangible image, and Stahl later polished them in Photoshop to ready them for production. Recognizable images from Chicago are frequently present in the designs.
“As a Chicago-focused company, we wanted images that reflected not only the city itself but also the individual experience of living here,” said Galecki. “An image of a young commuter staring into the distance with the skyline in the background might evoke different feelings for different people, but it’s an experience with which many Chicagoans identify.”
Galecki expects, in time, the Loop Apparel logo will be another recognizable symbol of living and working in Chicago.
