Loop is a collective of musicians that was founded in 2005 in London. Its members represent a generation of like-minded Jazz musicians who wanted to create a network of shared resources and a platform for artistic collaborations, events organisation and the promotion of recorded creative music.
Although its music is contemporary by nature, Loop does not aim to represent a specific style or genre; on the contrary it encourages the artistic diversity of its community. Thus, since the collective’s foundation, each member has developed a strong individual voice.
Promoting live music.....................................................
Alongside each band’s performing schedule, the members of the collective are committed to promoting live events and organising concerts and collaborations. Loop has run a weekly gig at the Oxford in Kentish Town for the past three years, which has literally been a hotbed of creativity for the London Jazz scene. The collective also collaborates with long-established venues and organisations in promoting concerts.
Recordings......................................................................
In 2006 Loop founded a record label (Loop records) which has now released 7 albums and in 2008 its offshoot Mini-Loop, a more simply packaged production dedicated to live bootlegs and “limited editions”. Through the label artists are able to benefit from worldwide distribution whilst retaining full ownership of their recordings.
Sharing resources. Music collaborations................................
Inherent to the desire of being part of a collective is the idea of sharing artistic and logistical resources. Through that idea, Loop has formed relationships with many musicians and collectives inside and outside the UK and created performing opportunities for musicians who share a similar ethos. This has resulted some very musically successful collaborations as well as the development of a “network” of musicians interested in helping each other.
Spread over two nights in Dublin's Twisted Pepper, with artists from Norway, Paris, Denmark, Dublin, Estonia and London, The Bottlenote Festival 2009is a major event for improvised music in Ireland.
The festival showcases the work of Bottlenote musicians and promotes collaborative practice between Irish jazz musicians and their European counterparts, providing audiences with an exciting snapshot of the best new improvised music both across Europe and here in Ireland.
