Bio
Loose Cannon is a new Georgia band with ties to both Atlanta and Athens on the verge of something really good. Born of three players who have played in many types of bands, Loose Cannon is a melting pot of influences with an emphasis on quality songwriting. The result is most definitely rock, touching on alt-country, often psychedelic, in the vein of Neil Young, Wilco, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Widespread Panic, the Rolling Stones, Rush, etc. The beauty of a great rock song should never be discounted..... ..The band is fronted by Mark Brut, and the bulk of the bands material is made up of Mark's songs. "This is a first for me...I've usually played the role of adding my best to other people's songs. This is the first time that my material is front and center in a band setting, along with being the front man and main guitar voice. It's been a great learning experience beyond everything, but songs are just a starting place...we are going to collaborate from here on out", says Brut. Songs such as "High Country", "Rest Stop", "It Is What It Is" and "The Sky's All Mine" demonstrate Brut's strength as writer and arranger as well as his unique take on life through his lyrics. "I try to view life both good and bad from different perspectives and try to bring that out lyrically", Brut says. "I'm not afraid to write about things that people think about but can rarely say or articulate." Brut has also moved his guitar in a heavier, crunchier direction. "I've always been drawn to the rawer guitar bands like Crazy Horse, and wanted to move things in that direction with my playing.".... ..The songs have been fleshed out beautifully by the dynamic rhythm section of Ryan Marcus on drums and Brian Barfield on bass. Marcus bring the solidity of Bonham with the touch of Copeland. "He really knows how to feel a song out and play some incredibly appropriate parts", Brut says of Ryan. Barfield is an amazingly fluid bass player, bringing jam and funk elements to the bands sound while still laying down the bass needed to hold a three-piece together. .... ..Beyond everything, this is a band that knows that half the battle is personality. Says Brut, "I have been in too many bands where the music was great but the personalities did not mesh. I knew this time out I wanted guys I could get along with first, and things would take care of themselves after that." Brut asked Barfield to join before ever hearing him play. "I had met Brian a few years back and knew right away that this was a guy I could play with.".... ..The result is a unique and powerful sound from a trio, focusing on strong songwriting first. This is a band to be heard and great things are still to come. .... .. ........How I made my profile:....I used <a -

....Mark Brut - guitar/vocals.. Brian Barfield - bass.. Ryan Marcus - drums...... ..Mark Brut hails from Philadelphia but has spent the past decade in the south, currently calling Athens, GA home. He maintains strong roots to his home town, but has also absorbed much of the music and culture that the south has to offer. He has played in many bands over the past 20 years, and has spent the past 3 years performing as a solo acoustic act. Mark has been fortunate to share the stage or collaborate with artists such as Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons, Outformation, Patterson Hood of Drive By Truckers, Bloodkin, North Mississippi All Stars, Brian Sofer, Cuban Stack, Adam Musick of Southern Bitch, David Barbe and the Quick Hooks, Reagan Boggs, Jason Marcum and many other local and national touring acts... ..Ryan Marcus started playing drums in the elementary school orchestra, and was immediately addicted. He got his first kit at 13, and went on to play in high school and college jazz bands to cut his chops. He has been fortunate to study with highly acclaimed instructors, such as Bobby Sabella in New York, and Bill Shirk and Jeff Sipe in Atlanta. Ryan has played with numerous bands in the Atlanta, New York, and Boulder, CO areas. Over the years he has been fortunate to perform with Barry Richman, Tinsley Ellis, John "Jojo" Herman, John Skehan (Railroad Earth), Bill McKay (Leftover Salmon), Outformation and even Ace Frehley. He has toured briefly with notable acts, such as Jeff Mosier (Blueground Undergrass) and Captain Soularcat. Don't play Ryan in darts, as he will take you every time!.. ..Brian Barfield is still sleeping..... -
