Sounds Like
Crazed up lyrics with the sound of church bells peeling across the west.
Loose Canon founded the Akoustik Anarkhy night & label back in 1999 and we've been making music together through various line ups since 2000. Veering in sound over the years from pistoled up Dylan to drum machined pop and now, so says our number one fan Soft Priest, avant rock.
Highlights along the way have included headlining to a packed Nouveau Casio crowd in Paris during Autumn 2004 & releasing 4 seminal 7'' singles since 2002 - Out To Lunch/This American Kid (Summer 02), What Comes Next/Take These Eyes (Summer 04), Cruising on the 86/Test 165 (Spring 05), Altercation/This Empire Weve Created (Summer 05).
With chart singles and an NME front cover, The Others' songs for the dispossessed have struck a chord with the messed-up and marginalised everywhere. Previous Others shows have seen fights, freak-outs, stage invasions, crowdsurfing and mass singalongs. They've done a gig on a tube, a gig in the foyer of a BBC studio and now they're finally back in Manchester promoting new album 'Inward Parts'.
WAXPLANET
Having been top of the NME Stereo, NME Breaking Bands list and with mentions in Flux magazine, its no wonder that these local indie pop heroes have etched their name into the hearts and minds of every self respecting scenester in Manchester. Sounding like a cross between The Jesus & Mary Chain and Franz Ferdinand with even more catchy pop rock hooks, Waxplanet are our top tip for the 'next big thing' in artrock indie.
MOVETOCONNECT
Crafting tales of lost love, daily monotony and urban decay, industrial experimental rock act MOVETOCONNECT bridge the gap between Joy Division & The Chameleons brand of northern post-punk and contemporary dancable art rock. They are reforming specially for a one night homecoming in their native Manchester.
JOE RYBICKI
Joe Rybicki was born sometime in the late 1980s, in a town somewhere near Manchester. A chance encounter with a banjo and a scratched Meat Loaf LP led to him being forever enchanted with music. His mother brought home discarded library books for him to read, and he did.
