   Lorcan's Blurbs
About me:
Originally from a faraway drumlin-land of Monaghan (famous homies Patrick Kavanagh and Ardal O'Hanlon), I came to Norwich to do a PhD in Superhero Movies. Along the way I have worked as a barman in the grad bar at the UEA and the Temple Bar and a Kitchen Porter in the Belgian Monk. Tales of my trials, tribulations and unhealthy obsessions with fictional Amazonian superhero ladies can be found here: The Life and Times of Jimmny Homunculus. I have also deluded myself into thinking I can paint and draw cartoons and occasionally foist them on the public. I am usually to be found pottering around second-hand book shops, comic shops, charity shops the forum library and dodgy book shops (or would do if norwich had any decent ones). Other than that it's mostly a lifestyle of cantankerous shut-innery, but I occasionally get out to teach people about fil-ms and show overheads of Wonder Woman standing on Batman's head. People often ask me when I will finish my PhD, I answer...whenever I figure out what terrible thing I did in a previous life.
Who I'd like to meet:
She Hulk, Wonder Woman Robocop, Batman...oh real people? mmm errr...Kurt Vonnegut, geeks, academics fetishists, pervoirts, humanists, goth ladies, comic book guys n' girls.

Hey Lorcan, haven't seen you in ages either- I would have called, but I thought you would have too much on (though I did pop into the Rose to see if you were working a few Saturdays back). We should have a film + 8 pack session soon, the last one was pretty funny...

How is the teaching in Lowey? Mark told me about it the other day, hadn't heard before...

Hope all's well,

Joe

“Scottish prodigies Popup are making a huge impact, they’re the best new band we have seen this week and will be one of the hottest bands of 2007”. – NME

Popup are a wee Scottish Indie-Pop band that have played live on BBC TV & Radio and done sessions for XFM and had lots of airplay in Japan, USA and Germany where their debut single "Lucy, What You Trying to Say?" was No3 in the Radio Bremen listeners year end poll, Popup have been written about by many magazines like NME where they were recently "live band of the week" and their friends at Artrocker supported the band with an invite to play their stage at The Great Escape 2007. Popup recently toured Texas and New Orleans, (including SxSW) and they recently performed at London Calling in Amsterdam and did 3 shows for the BritBus tour in NYC, they have such a wonderful range of influences, from jangle-tastic Postcard era Orange Juice through to the indie-tastic saviours of indie-pop The Pastels to balls out blistering riff monsters via Arab Strap and everything in between, but without sounding muddled and contrived.... everything sounds like Popup. We think you will like their songs and you can see and here more at.... www.myspace.com/popuptheband

My dearest Lorcan - you made a friend request which under a beer haze I accepted and then didn't come back to for weeks. How are you? I miss you. When are you coming to Australia? Please send my love to Sara and all other grad bar friends. I drop you little notes every now and then but never hear back - I'm sure you're busy maintaining all your blogs (oh yes, and the phd) but send me some love. I want to hear how your life is going. Fancy a trip to the carribbean in June? XXX, Melissa

Unfortunately that's all the Lorcan I could find on the Dublin tapes. But if you listen closely you'll hear that that's the moment we decided to do Science Fiction Freak as a Replicants song.
