Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, U2, The Clash, Elton John, random songs I heard on television or in the movies
Movies
I guess you could say I'm an auterist, since I tend to be drawn to the films of particular directors, e.g. Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Atom Egoyan, Brian De Palma, Sergio Leone, Alfred Hitchcock, the Coen Brothers, P.T. Anderson, John Ford, Billy Wilder, Neil LaBute, David Mamet
I'm also a fan of anything that has great cinematography.
Heroes, 30 Rock, Lost, Grey's Anatomy (though I blush to admit it), old episodes of Law & Order (the original is the besst), Friday Night Lights, Scrubs, Arrested Development, Joan of Arcadia, Prison Break, The West Wing, and really anything on DVD because it lacks the most annoying mark of television: commercials
One of my favorite shows on life in NYC (where I also used to live):
HARRY POTTER!!!!...oh, yeah, and Tender Is the Night, The Sweet Hereafter, The Confessions of Nat Turner, and the page-turning fiction of Michael Crichton
Almost everyone I know is my hero in one way or another...
...my Mom, who is my heart and what I would strive to be as a mother should God ever bless me with children
...my Dad, who doesn't know how strong he is, and is the kind of dedicated, hard-working person I strive to be
...my sister, who is so sweet and loving and who always has my back and who is going to be an awesome mother
...my brother-in-law, who after meeting our crazy family willingly married into it and is going to be such a great dad
...my best friend, who gets me completely and always knows just what to say
...my friend H., whose strength is so inspiring to me
...my friend L., who can always make me laugh and still manage to teach me something at the same time
...my friend C., who is fearless, even in the face of adversity
...my friend M., who is the best listener I know
...my friend R., who has such a welcoming and kind spirit and who taught me a lot about what it means to be a leader
...my friend N., whose passion is infectious
...my running friends, who inspire me daily with their dedication and their accomplishments
...my friend B., who has such an amazing capacity for compassion in his heart as well as an awe inspiring potential to do great things
...my friends J., B., A., and R. who give their lives daily and completely over to serving God
About me: Right now, I'm a lonely girl at a transition in just about every area of my life. Mostly, I'm someone who needs to stop thinking of herself as a girl and start thinking of herself as a woman. My big struggles at the moment are depression and moving past the end of my relationship with the man I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. (These things are related, but they are not the same.) It's a daily struggle with both, but it also gets easier every day, with the help of the Lord and the wonderful friends and family he's put into my life as my support system. I get through it by focusing on all the blessings God has given me. I've finally found a church that I love, and I'm starting to slowly find a place there, which is hard for me as someone who is shy and resistant to getting involved. I'm also preparing on going to nursing school, an educational and career move that I'm so excited about and I know is right for me. I would like to one day use the skills I learn there to help those less fortunate than myself both here in the U.S. and around the world. I want to make a difference in the world, and I know that this is the way I'm supposed to do it. It's scary because it's an entirely new direction for me, but it's exciting too, because I know it's the right thing. All of it is, no matter what, is for the glory of God.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read my "Heroes" section, because it's all about the people who help make me who I am and help inspire me to be better.
Who I'd like to meet: Jesus Christ, my soul mate, Bob Costas, Martin Scorsese, my virtual running friends
I don't think I'd like to meet a lot of those famous people whose music or films or works I enjoy. The few times I've "met" one of those people, it's never failed to disappoint. I would like to meet more people who have made some kind of difference in the world or in the lives of others, for their stories should be heard by all. I hope to one day be one of them.
I just wanted to say that you've got one heck of a playlist on this page. There are some artists I don't recognize, but I might have to look into some more. I didn't previously know the title or artist of the Damien Rice song, but I immediately recognized it from the (excellent) movie "Closer."
I hope you're having a great weekend, and if you are actually looking forward to Monday, you MUST be blessed. ;)
If I had to choose my fave it would be "Now Voyager" or "All This and Heaven Too" or "Old Acquaintance"...Uhg!Ican't decide but these are my top three along with "All About Eve".
Exile, huh? Sounds intense. Call me if you need to talk or anything. Are you out of class? What about Tuesday? If not, then Friday. Let me know what works best for you. Love ya!
Hey girl! How are ya? I sent you a text to see if you were free this week (Thursday, I think), but I didn't hear back. Do you want to get together? I'd love to see you!
Okay, will do. I'll try to give you a call when I'm down for the reunion and if we can't get together then, we'll just plan for another time when I'm back in MS for school. Hope your summer's going great!
Hey Shannon! Are you planning on going to the class reunion July 18 & 19? Just wondering. As of right now, I'm planning on attending. I'd still like to see you, so we'll have to plan a time to get together. Hope your summer is going great! ~Kristen
Hey...what's up? Checking in on you-I hope everything is okay. I noticed your status and mood...let me know what's going on with you!! I LOVE YOU SISTER :)
Where've you been stranger? i think it's so cool that you get to go with your sister,....and my child. LOLOLOL! I am so sorry,...be happy she's flying with Heath and Mick!
I just rented "No Country For Old Men." If I hate it I'm going to hold you responsible for ruining my weekend. Ha! Just kidding, I hope yours is wonderful.
Yes! We have got to get together soon. I've been sick since I got out of school, so I've kinda been under the radar. But yes, I'm excited about being out and I'm really excited about getting to manage my own summer. I've got a seminar to go to this week, but what about lunch next week?
Europe is great! I have been sort of out of touch...I kind of pop on and off of here checking emails and school stuff...I'm a bum. We head to Paris today and I can't wait! We really really really need to get togehther some time when I get back. I pretty much start classes right away, but the start of the semester is the easiest to do stuff...so, hopefully a coffee and chat can be in teh future! have a great week...
