There are more than 4,000 miles from Santiago, Chile, to Miami, Florida. And more than 4,000 stories. Lorena Miré sings some of those stories on her solo debut.
Her personal legend starts in Santiago, Chile. She was born the only child of a family of performers. The warm charm of Vaudeville shows and harsh lighting of modern television laid the basis for a contrast that still exists in her music to this day: Some stories are told in a quiet whisper, and some thunder from her powerful voice.
This singular voice started to develop at the age of 2. As a child Lorena learned to sing and harmonize along with her mother and father. Both accomplished artists, they chose to take Lorena on the road with them, rather than abandon her to a nanny. By age four, Lorena was already performing in children's variety shows, but her early career was abruptly cut short by her family's decision to immigrate to the United States. This decision was expedited by the fact that singular voices all over Chile were being violently silenced by the Pinochet regime.
In the US, Lorena continued to perform along side her parents, and slowly began to form her musical identity. By high school she was the lead singer in a local band, and the most gifted student in her school's choir. Indy alternative band "Element104" showcased her for the first time professionally, but Lorena began hearing the private stirrings of her own personal tales waiting to be told.
Unsatisfied and creatively stifled by "Element104", Lorena bid them farewell. With newfound confidence from the gigs now securely under her belt she decided to start her own project. "Wisdom of Crocodiles" was the vehicle through which Lorena began spotlighting her songwriting. Several incarnations of "Wisdom" played all over South Florida, with Lorena as the keystone, and principal member.
A new chapter was written in Lorena's life when she graduated with a degree in Special Education. With her studies came a profound insight into the human condition, an insight that weaves through her songs making them new, yet instantly recognizable.
Comfortable performing before 1 or 100,000, Lorena has fused the sensibilities of acoustic folk with the inherent power of amplified rock. Like her troubadour influences, Aimee Mann, Carol King, Silvio Rodriguez, Isabel & Angel Parra, Adam Duritz, and many more, Lorena's songwriting is emotive and passion filled. Her voice rings in the telling of her stories. Sit back, and let her draw you in with just one.
