   About Lorenzo Barriendos
Lorenzo was born in Barcelona, Spain in July of 1956. At his home, there was always a varied musical information. He says that his mother always sang very well, although as an amateur, and his father was part of several groups of music of the Caribbean and South America, but in the professional form. After being turned out of the classroom and being sent to the principalship many times, he knew that he could not continue making music just from pounding the writing desks; he had to look for another way to be relieved or the expulsions would continue; so his parents soon after registered him in a school of music, and then he began playing the accordion and the piano. At that time, they lived in Caracas. When he was thirteen, he moved to Switzerland where, besides beginning his French studies, he continued with the high school, the theory and the solfeo. Parallel to this, he was part of a group dedicated to the Latin American folklore with his cousin, Tito, and his uncle, Liberto: Tito Corona et ses guitares. Liberto had proposed him to go to Switzerland and to be part of his group and so to contribute with his knowledge of the cuatro and other instruments and rhythms of the Caribbean. He was excited with the idea and, after obtaining the authorization of his parents, he moved to Switzerland. There, he developed the technique of some Latin American typical instruments like charango, the quena, the pinquillo, the tarka, the paraguayan harp and other instruments of the region. With this group he traveled around Switzerland and other parts of Europe. Later, he returned to Barcelona where he continued his studies of theory and solfeo in the main conservatory of music of the city and, in addition, he began to study classic guitar. Soon after, he returns to Caracas with his family where he lives many years and develops his largest phase of learning and work. There he continues his studies of theory, solfeo, orquestation, harmony and musical appreciation. He begins to study the classic contrabass with worldwide recognized professor Omar Sansone, in addition to other courses and studies of specialization with professor Rómulo Lazarde, the great teacher of jazz, Gerry Weil; he also takes some classes with Yannis Ioanidis. Also, interpretation studies of the Simón Bolivar Symphonic Orchestra, which he was part of as a classic contrabass player. As it was logical, it encourage him to go into other styles within the popular music and at his time of high school he formed a band called: "One foot, one eye." The Balzehaguaos was his following important experience. This was a good consolidated band and it was formed by musicians of great prestige, Frank Quintero, Leo Quintero, Jesus Sanoja or Carlos "Nene" Quintero. Then Melao came, a band that meant the beginning of an important musical movement in Latin America in the 80s. This group was one of those cases of little popularity, but much importance. Few years later, its members, except Ilan Chester that had been sponsored in solitary, formed La seccion ritmica de Caracas. In this case both objectives were obtained, because the style that they developed influenced in later tendencies and because they worked producing Yordano, Willie Colón or Luzmarina; very successful artists. Melao and La seccion got to make noise including Europe. As a result of these encounters, "El Diablo" begins to have a great relation with the most important people of the Venezuela's and Latin America musical surrounding, and thanks to this, with important musicians of the United States and Europe. In the jazz and Latin jazz he developed productions and international tours with the own Gerry Weil, Otmaro Ruíz or Dave Valentin. In the world of the salsa or, the curiously called "Latin music", with El Trabuco, an "all stars" directed by Alberto Naranjo, with Mango, a sextet of a great exquisiteness, with the great Celia Cruz, or Guaco, a truly great band. In pop, for example, he has been, during many years, musical director and arranger for the talented Ilan Chester, which produced several discs, with Franco de Vita as a musical director, or with Jose Luis Rodriguez "El Puma" or David Bisbal as a bass player in tours. Having lived in Venezuela, Switzerland, Spain and the United States, and in a expanded career, he has worked for a large amount of record companies, producers, arrangers, for live formations, in discs recordings, publicity jingles, music for cinema, theater, musical comedies, etc, accomplishing to be considered one of best bass players in Latin America. He has been professor in the Yamaha's School and he has made showcases for the recognized Washburn instruments. Nowadays he has as sponsors prestigious marks related to his main instrument: EBS, Leduc, BSX, HVC Music Import. His recording sessions can be counted by hundreds, his open formation and versatility has allowed him to evolve in diverse lands within his professional trajectory, like a bass player, arranger, producer, director or as a chorus singer, programmer, guitarist, percussionist and even some times "whistling" in studies in Caracas, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Miami, New York, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Berlin or Munich, being deserving of several prizes and nominations and many of his works, golden or platinum records. His live presentations are innumerable, having worked in more than thirty countries. For several years he has been residing in Barcelona from where he collaborates with projects in America and Europe.
