  • Bio

Hi, I'm Lori Davidson, and I am a singer/songwriter from San Francisco.  I have songs on this space from my first CD that my band toured with in the 90's and early 2000's.  We were a blue collar working blues band playing 6 to 7 nights a week and paying the rent.  The CD features tunes by myself and partner Ken Embrey, and from a magnificent artist, singer/songwriter from Santa Cruz by the name of John Morris. We are releasing our second CD entitled "Who I Am" and a few tracks from that can be sampled here. Who I Am is made up entirely of songs that I wrote while touring with the band, driving truck for 7 1/2 years before sailing, or while sailing our 30 ft. boat to Mexico. We now live in Mazatlan, and play 5 nights a week; our idea of retirement.   The first CD did very well on the unsigned blues artist page of Amazon.com, and we still have those available, but you'll have to vacation in Mazatlan and come hear us play to get one! I should mention that my husband and I worked with John Lee Hooker, and I also sang for Harvey Mandel in the 90's.  That's Harvey, not Howie.  Ken Embrey is a proffessional musician of many years. He plays bass and trumpet and has performed with Janice Joplin, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Pete Sears, to name a few.  Hope you enjoy the tunes, and come and see us sometime.

My influences are so varied it's hard to pin down.  I was imbued with the spirit to want to absorb any good music that I could find.  Early rock, Beatles, Stones, CSNY, Neil Young definitely.  David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Brian Eno.  Blues...everyone.  John Lee Hooker gave me life lessons in humanity, let alone vocals, Etta James was a big inspiration for vocals, but I was greatly influenced by local and national artists, uh, Tommy Castro, Ms. Dee, Johnny Nitro.  I learned a lot of performance technique from watching them, and didn't even know I had a west coast feel until I left the west coast.  Oh, oh oh Tom Waits!  He and Elvis C. two amazing wordsmiths.  Jazz vocals probably Ella, Sarah, and Blossom Dearie. The list would go on and on if you let it.

That was a great day. Dilyan is truly one of the greatest men I've known. You should hear him sing my songs! It's hysterical to hear that Bulgarian accent.

OMG! You guys are leaving soon! Well I miss you and love you lots! Have you considered not stopping at Mexico? Why not go down and cross through Panama Canal and come up the east coast to Boston? You'd have a place to stay here with us. That would be fun, yes?

He plays bass and trumpet and has performed with Janice Joplin, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Pete Sears, to name a few.  Right now we're cruising the Sea of Cortez in our 30 Ft. Catalina, writing some new tunes, and having the time of our lives. I hope to build a little network through MySpace and connect with other writers as well, of lyrics or prose, as I graduated with a creative writing BA back in the day.  Hope you enjoy the tunes!
