A native New Yorker, Lori was introduced to music and particularly the jazz scene at an early age, accompanying her father, renowned jazz singer and balladeer – Johnny Hartman, on his many recording sessions and performances. Lori chose not to study music in college, instead earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami and an M.S. in Telecommunications from PACE University in New York City.
Lori began singing at church, in the choir and as a soloist. She also reconnected with her jazz roots performing in various venues throughout New York City and has become a favorite on the NY jazz scene. Lori Hartman has a fresh, charming appeal and captivates the listener right from the start with her warm, soothing and exciting sound. Her approach to song and respect for lyric are reminiscent of her father’s.
She has performed to rave reviews at the Berkshire Jazz festival with the Richie Hart trio and on the Jazzmobile with the late John Hicks blending her sultry sound with New York City’s summer heat. She has also performed in jazz concerts with the John Hicks quintet and with the Junior Mance quartet. Lori returned recently by popular demand to Cecil’s jazz club in New Jersey, accompanied by Don Braden.
Lori has earned the respect of such noted jazz musicians as bassist Earl May, pianist Tardo Hammer, and drummer Leroy Williams who appear on her forthcoming debut CD featuring jazz standards performed in her own inimitable style honoring the traditions of the masters.

"Saturday at the River Room, Lori Hartman showed that she inherited the remarkable qualities that made her father, Johnny Hartman, such a legendary singer of jazz ballads. She has a beautiful voice, fine musicianship, perfect diction and wonderful stage presence. And, yes, she can "swing." All while her back-up musicians gave her superb support." - Raoul Abdul, The New York Amsterdam News
“Lori Hartman is the real thing. I’m so glad she started singing. The audience will definitely be rewarded.” – Sharif Abdus-Salaam, WKCR 89.9 FM, New York, NY
