    Larry K. & Lorna's Interests
GeneralLarry is a longboard surfer. We write collaboratively and have just found an agent for our second book, a mystery titled Murder ... They Wrote.
MusicLarry played guitar and lots of other instruments. Lorna plays keyboard and wrote the book and score for a Christmas musical called The Giving Season. We both enjoy lots of different kinds of music and have extensive CD and LP collections.
MoviesYES! At one time we had over 1200 videos. They were a godsend in Japan where English language TV was scarce. We donated about 800 of them to a local chgarity a couple of years ago. But we are replacing our favorites with DVDs - and buying new ones. Our tastes run to Romantic Comedy, Drama and foreign films. We enjoy character-driven films, especially those which are well-plotted and well-written. Some of our favorites are: 84 Charing Cross Road, Tea With Moussolini, While You Were Sleeping, Dave, You've Got Mail, Babette's Feast, Shall We Dance (the original Japanese version), Sabrina (especially Sidney Pollack's remake), Cinema Paradiso. Lorna loves Cinderella stories in all forms from the Lesley Ann Warren version of the Rogers & Hammerstein musical to Ever After to Maid to Order. Larry loves the sagas: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
TelevisionLorna is hooked on Project Runway and CBS Sunday Morning. Larry watches the History Channel. And both of us enjoy the PBS specials like Celtic Woman, Josh Groban and Andrea Boccelli.
BooksYES! We are bookaholics. They are someday going to take over our house! Larry loves SciFi and was thrilled to meet Terry Brooks at the 2005 Maui Writers Conference. Lorna reads some romance, some mystery and literary fiction. She was delighted to meet both Gail Tsukiyama and Jenny Cruisie at the same Maui conference.
HeroesLorna's heroes are: Larry; Jesus Christ; Larry's dad, Murl Collins. He was his wife's primary caregiver for the last four years of her life. At 90, he's still playing golf and loving life; Larry's Grandfather, Harry Burton who told his nurse the day before he died, "Now, Dearie, (he called all women 'Dearie') if I should die today I don't want you to cry. I've done everything I ever wanted to do." How many of us will be able to say that? He loved fiercely and always had a great sense of humor; My precious friends, all gone too soon: Kathy Frey, Cathy Anderson, Peggy Bucklin, Joyce Tancas, Hervette Mason, Diana Gardner, Sue Ledermann, Fred Roess, Lana Partington. Each one was a unique gift and blessing in our lives, and we continue to miss them.

About me:
We were raised in Alhambra, California and attended grammar school and high school together. Larry went to California Polytechnic College in Pomona, and Lorna attended California State College at Los Angeles. We have been married for over forty years and have one daughter, Kimberly. Larry is an engineer and spent many years working on various projects throughout the United States and around the world. Lorna worked in Document Control and is now an ITIL certified IT professional where she has done a great deal of technical writing. We both worked in Japan on the Universal Studios theme park. Larry was a Project Engineer, responsible for the Jurassic Park, JAWS and WaterWorld attractions. Lorna continued to put her documentation skills to use working in the Osaka field office. Our memoir of that experience, 31 Months in Japan: The Building of a Theme Park was a 2006 EPPIE finalist and was named one of Rebeccas Reads best nonfiction for 2005.
