Lorna McDonald - Bass Trombone
Lorna began playing the trombone aged 10 whilst at school in Paisley, near Glasgow. In 1990 she commenced studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama under the tutelage of the late Ian Murray, Chris Stearn, Lance Green and Sue Addison, graduating in 1996 with Master of Music and Bachelor of Art degrees.
During her time at the RSAMD, Lorna developed a keen interest in Chamber Music and Early Music, twice winning the Governors Recital Prize for Chamber Music. It was whilst at college that she became a founder member of Worldbrass, a German based 10 piece brass ensemble and of His Ain Draucht Trumpets along with trombone soloist John Kenny.
Lorna has worked with all of Scotland's professional orchestras and several throughout the UK and Europe and and in addition to her orchestral work performs regularly in the commercial sector appearing on numerous recordings and shows. Lorna is currently bass trombonist with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and is a member of the acclaimed all-female trombone quartet Bones Apart.
When she isn't playing the trombone, she is normally on a train/plane/hovercraft going somewhere else to play the trombone but, when she does have some time at home, she enjoys watching films and likes to indulge in haute cuisine and the finest wines known to humanity.
