How we got our name:
Founded in 1781, the City of Los Angeles has retained its Latin character throughout history. This was exemplified at Maria Quevado’s tortilla factory, El Sol Del Mayo.Located in downtown Los Angeles, El Sol Del Mayo employed Mexican women who hand-shaped tortillas during the first half of the century. Sol is the Latin translation for Sun and the modern word for 'Sun' in Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Icelandic, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish languages.
Los Angeles is renowned for its sunny climate and rich heritage. With our team’s name, the Los Angeles Sol, we honor L.A.'s history and cultural tradition.

Under the league's innovative format, the team that finishes the regular season in first place advances directly to the league championship final on Aug. 22, which it will host. The "playoffs" consist of basically two games -- the third-place team playing the fourth-place team for the right to play the second-place team, with the winner of that match going on to the final.
