‘Richly textured and sensitively recorded... the songs cut a distinctive sound, rhythmically complex and melodically compelling. ‘Tu’ is a curious and confident musical offering’ SONGLINES
“North London's Los Desterrados tackle the traditional Sephardic repertoire with rather un-English passion and up-tempo energy. These numbers have been performed for more than a millennium but the urgency of these performances makes the years fall away.” THE WIRE (One of The Wire’s Top 20 ‘Global’ CDs of 2006)
On ‘Tu' Los Desterrados take the Medieval music of the Sephardic Jews, with it’s strong Latin influences, and drag it effortlessly into the 21st Century. With lashings of Spanish folk and Balkan Soul, they deliver a series of rousing, melancholic songs that pulse with rhythm and feeling.’ LONDON METRO
‘Los Desterrados use these old tunes and lyrics but bring their own personalities and a fair amount of flamenco to the sound. Much of the memorable repetoire is slow and lyrical, but there’s bravado too. Opening track ‘Avre Tu’ is almost Gipsy Kings in it’s latin fire’ LONDON EVENING STANDARD
Los Desterrados – ‘The Exiles’ – release their eagerly anticipated new album “Miradores” July 2008.
A new track from “Miradores” will be posted every fortnight on the Myspace music player in the lead-up to the album’s release – the snappily titled “Buenas noches, Hanum Dudu (Ventanas altas tyenes tu) – Good evening, Ms Dudu (You have high windows)” is the first track to be featured.
“Miradores” is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed “Tu” and was produced by Simon Edwards, former member of Brit Award winning 80s band Fairground Attraction.
Los Des’s second album ‘Tu’ has been released to great worldwide critical. The UK’s leading world music magazine Songlines described the album as a “curious and confident musical offering” with songs that were “richly textured, vibrant, rhythmically complex and melodically compelling”. The London Evening Standard praised the ‘bravado’ in their music, The Wire magazine selected the album as one of it’s top 20 Global CDs of 2006 and tracks from the CD have been played across the BBC Radio network.
‘Tu’ received a worldwide release in spring 2007 and territories throughout the world responded well with sales and media coverage in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Greece, Israel, New Zealand & the USA. ‘Tu’ has just been released in Turkey, licensed to respected jazz/world label AK Muzik.
